For the people who are trying to makes some kind of statement by camping in the left lane, don't be surprised so some day when you do this to the wrong person and they either run you off the road or follow you home.

Driving 7-8 over on interstate, seatbelt thrown over shoulder, browsing CF and I pass a state trooper in a black car. Pulls me over. I think to myself, I'm screwed no getting out of this with what I did.... Cop pulled me over because the ISU license plate frame is covering the county on the license plate.

Over half the cars i have seek since I can't read their county fully. Musta been a Hawk

Just pony up for the vanity ISU plate - there is no county designation on there, just says "Cyclones" at the bottom. Problem solved! (Assuming the cops can't bust you for covering that up...)

You can be pulled over for obstructing any letter or number on a license plate in Iowa, even the "Cyclones" at the bottom of a vanity plate, or part of the "I" in Iowa that protrudes upwards toward the top of the plate.

I used to drive 80 on the interstate, but after picking up another speeding ticket in December (my second in 7 months), I've since dropped down to 60 on all highways. I'll never get a speeding ticket doing that, and with the tight funds I operate on, the 15mpg difference between 80 and 60 is huge.

You serious? What are you driving that has a 15mpg difference between 80 and 60?

If I came up on you on the Interstate and you were going 60, I would expect to see an 80 year-old behind the wheel.

I drive a 2012 Ford Escape. I get anywhere between 21-24 mpg while going 80mph, and get anywhere between 33-36mpg while drive 60 (on the interstate, anyway; it's more like 28-30 on 2-lanes since those aren't as flat as the interstate). At least that's what the on-board computer tells me. It might not be 100% accurate, but it'd still be a pretty big difference.

And believe me, I don't blame you for expecting to see a senior citizen behind the wheel. It took a massive amount of pride-swallowing for me to stop rolling at 80 on I-80. If my job paid a little better, I might not have dropped quite so far and just stuck to about 70. But I've got to squeeze the most out of every drop of gas right now.

Then they will meet Mr. Smith and Wesson.

I stop accelerating once the car starts shaking. J/K Usually just 5 over (10 if I'm not paying attention). Funny thing about my driving that a friend of mine pointed out, is that I accelerate pretty fast until I get to the speed limit, then I just maintain speed. Kind of odd, but I did notice that I indeed do that. Odd...

For those of you complaining about drivers in the left lane: give people time to pass. If I'm passing someone going 60mph, I'm not going to speed up to 90mph, just because you're in a hurry. Tailgating me will only make me slower.

I just drove 2500 miles around the Frisco Bay and on up to and around central Oregon. I was only passed two times. The second was pulled over by CHIPs on 505 while he was going 95. The first car was going 100. Guess I am slowing up.

I'll drive no more than 74 mph on I-35.

Being in a car accident at the age of 12 at 75 mph (on South Dakota interstate where speed limit is 75) makes me nervous to drive at excessive speeds.

OK, I won't condone tailgating, but hanging next to a car with a very small speed differential is poor driving. It depends on your speed, but in that situation, if you're going 61 MPH, f*** you. If you're going 65 or more, the person behind can wait. That's the thing that I've learned to hate about midwest drivers, it seems they're in 2 camps...either they don't use their cruise control and they vary their speed according to a random number generator, or they use their cruise control, and they won't ever effing vary from that speed, no matter what's going on. Passing a construction site, sorry, cruise is set at 61. Passing someone going 60...sorry, cruise is set at 61.

I-35 in the AM between Ankeny and Ames is the worst. Just about everyone figures as long as they are going 3 over, they are automatically going faster then everyone else and in turn dont ever need to get out of the left lane. There are also people who will get in the left lane, make a pass, see a semi about 1/2 mile ahead, and think "well I'm eventually going to have to pass this semi, so I might as well stay in the left lane"

Its pretty simple...the left lane is used for passing. Once you pass, you get back into the right lane. If everyone did this, traffic flow would be 10x better.

If you are passing a single car it should never take more then a few seconds. All you need to do is accelerate by 10 mph for roughly 10 seconds to get past that car. It's called passing for a reason. When you're on a rural 2 lane road do you accelerate to pass?

A lot of people were cruising the left lane on my drive from Ames to the QC today, PMO.

There are a lot of things I do wrong when I drive but I can honestly say I've never held up another car by being in the passing lane unless someone was in front of me.

The problem is driver education. I've probably driven 1,000 miles on foreign highways and not once experienced this problem. If I drive 3 miles on I35 I'll experience it.
