If it's Christmas day 2013 and an inch or two of snow has fallen on Highway 20 between Waterloo and Dubuque, 35-55 mph. Thanks Iowa Department of Transportation!

I've heard a cop or 2 claim they usually go by "8 you're great, 9 you're mine"...

So I stick around 7 over usually.

That's what I have heard too.

I usually stick to 5 over in Iowa/Minnesota. I have had bad luck in Missouri, so I usually stick to about 3 over. Kansas I've never had problems going 10+

If Im with a group, however fast they go.

Arrrgh! I hate this. If I pass you, I'm not giving you a signal to speed up and hang on my *** like a dingleberry. It drives me nuts when I pass a couple people and they immediately see it as time to start a convoy. Not only does it stick out like sore thumb to cops, I'm not getting paid to be your tour guide of the highway.

Between ames and dm 80 ( there really is no place for an officer to turn around, just slow down at on ramps)
between ames and hwy 20 75
I80 to IC typically 75-78 but its easy to find a pack and jump in and go 80
I235 between Ankeny/WdM 5-8 over never more than 10 bc of cameras

Always within 5 mph over in commercial vehicles for work.

If you're going to slow down at every on ramp, is it really worth it?

Anyone ever been caught by a plane? I was with a buddy once who always bragged about his $400 radar detector. Then he got pulled over while going ~15 over, cop even gave him **** about his fancy dancy detector :biglaugh:

When driving by myself, I'm usually going 82-87 mph. If you pass me, you just became my pace car.

I've heard a lot of cops say that 10 is their cut-off, unless it's a situation where they suspect you're drunk and need a valid reason to stop you.

I stick about 7-8.

I don't understand the guy that said he goes 10 over on 80 between IC and Des Moines. I'm not questioning it from a "getting pulled over" standpoint, but rather from "is that physically possible?" standpoint. I feel like every time I've driven that stretch, about 80% of the time, the left lane is clogged with a semi going 65.5 MPH trying to pass another semi going 65, and no one gets any where. Absolutely infuriating. Thankfully, most of my interstate driving is on 35 these days, and being that it's much flatter, this is less of a problem.

I like to go about 6 or 7 over. Knock on wood, but that has gotten by through many a speed trap without getting pulled over. I guess eventually some cop on a slow day might have to settle for that, but I gotta feeling they are looking for a legit 10-12 over the speed limit at minimum.

Just did Ames to Akron, Ohio. My average speed was 81.8 over the 700-800 miles it is.

I usually go about 12-15 over. This time I was in Chicago, just trying to keep up with the traffic on I-80/90 and I didn't realize how fast we were going until we passed a couple ambulances with their lights on. We were going 95 in a 55. I slowed down...

I usually go between 8-10 over on the interstate, and 5-7 everywhere else. Of course, I live in Cedar Rapids, so the three lanes of 380 is left lane-5 over, middle lane-speed limit, right lane-5 under. The worst drivers in the state live here.

This is actually quite common. I do a lot of work in the Quad Cities and I commute from Des Moines and it is not uncommon to see people go 80-85 on that stretch on I-80. Most of the time they have Illinois plates. Traffic tends to slow down between the speed traps that are usually set-up: just East of Bondurant and the last rest area before you hit I-380.
