Born in NE Iowa. Lived in New York for a decade and loved it... Then we had twins and being closer to family became a lot more important. Moved to the twin cities 2-1/2 years ago and haven't looked back. Puts me about 3 hours from my hometown (where my mother still lives), 1 hour from my dad in Rochester, and about 6 hours from the nearest in-laws (perfect).
About 20 blocks

I'm a 4-5 hour drive from my hometown now, depending on who I'm travelling with/how many stops I need to make. Close enough to get home when I need to, far enough that my folks can't just stop by without calling ahead.
Not far enough away.

I've lived in 4 different states but my 87 year old father still lives in the same house he was born in. Other than 4 years of military service he has never lived anywhere else.
Just under 200 miles.
But farther when the Iowa Corridor is flooded and when there's nothing good on IPR.
I know that's not unusual but its nuts to me. My 90 year old grandfather hasn't lived outside of Odebolt, IA ever.
