Is there anyway to alter the text on the landing page? Without context or explanation it may seem confusing for newer a user. Maybe not use Patreon's language as much, such as the constant references to 'rewards'.

No, there is not. That's a Patreon thing. I'm working on getting a page created with a Patreon link with PayPal as well. So stay tuned.
