Agreed. And a lower cost the first year will help it grow I would think. It’ll take you 2-3 years to get the hang of it and you can bump it up from there. 75 players at $70 is better than 40 at $100, especially to help it grow down the road.

We’ve done things like # beers drank let’s you cut something off your score and things like that - but that tournament has been going for a LONG time and people don’t care who wins at all, they are there for the good time and to raise money. They also have a pink ball in each group and it has to be rotated to each player in the group, if you lose it you add a stroke or two to final score.

I’d keep it simple and fun.
Before Larzo passed he wanted us to tee off with a 7-iron on every par 5. Just one of the many oddities he was known for. Right now, I have the admin stuff cruising along. Including an appearance from Chuck Long.

The issue is that I'm not sure how many of his other buddies golf. He and I were basically the only ones. Most of the rest shouldn't be allowed on a golf course. I mean most of them are Hawks so I guess this was redundant information. :)

So I think this will be successful even if we only get 50 golfers, but I won't feel right until it's 100. Make sure you guys check this cool website out, started by one of our own here: https://www.golfdsm.com/

I would be interested in playing as well.

I would talk to the local golf stores. Sometimes they will give away stuff such as golf balls, bags and even clubs.

If you want to do the golf towel idea I could talk to a friend that owns a printing company.

This is the latest version of my flyer for the tournament. I'm meeting with Woodland Hills tomorrow to see what they are planning to give away. After that we will be pounding the pavement looking for hole sponsors and other great prize giveaways. We want this to be a great fundraiser some day for these two great organizations, but for now we will get what we can. Help me honor my great friend, and help fight cancer along the way!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/LarzoMemorialGolf, just click on the photo for the full flyer. Ignore that he was a huge hawkeye fan, he was one of the good ones.

Have any of you set up PayPal to accept credit cards on your behalf for something like this? Can it be put on a facebook group page?

*edit, Looks like I got it figured out. I thought it would be cool to use the drop-down option for the different number of golfers but that doesn't actually work with facebook. But if I created my own website I could've done it. Pretty slick.

Assume you are having hole-in-one and have hole-in-one insurance. It's not expensive, and adds to the fun. Also, on the two shortest par 3's, we collected money from those who wanted to, and gave drink tickets to anyone who landed on the green. It's charity, so most people do it. You need someone to sit at the hole (in a shaded cart).

We aren't having a hole-in-one contest this year. I'm just trying to keep my head above water and get all the technical stuff done. Frankly, I need golfers now. We will have lots of prizes, but I definitely will do that next year when I'm over 100 golfers.

So you can now find info about our tournament at:

Links to pay using credit card at all three sites, or you can save the transaction fees and mail a check. Details found in the flyer.
