Never know, but I do think that if the NFL is a possibility for him it is a ways down the line. As long as he's succeeding at the college level the NFL will always be there. Every year around a quarter of the league changes head coaches. No need to jump into a dicey situation when he can wait and have his pick of jobs if/when he's ever ready to make the move.

I disagree. It's very easy. All you have to do is publish it on the interwebz...

It’s also crazy to bring up a wrestling coach.

If you were surprised with Fred leaving, it’s on you. Not an equitable situation. Fred was putting out several red flags that he wasn’t going to be here long. The contract buyout, or lack thereof, at the top. On the other hand, CMC agreed to a much more prohibitive buyout.

It’s rare for coaches, even successful ones at top programs, to stay “forever”, but the fact two alums (one in a non-revenue sport) left means absolutely nothing on this situation.

It's not that he'll be here forever, it's that FSU isn't the job to get worked up about.

I could see Matt saying he was intrigued on the phone to some smiley glad hand and then after hanging up saying 'yikes!'

I don't think that is the card to play here.

Don't they have a split schedule in the ACC? With that crappy league, you take advantage of the year you don't pay Clemson in reg season. Make it through your schedule and then pull out the win over Clemson in the Champ game. That is a much easier task getting to the playoff than battling through a Big XII type schedule IMO

"However, he hasn’t really shown the ability to get better players even though he’s had success at Iowa State.

    • 2016-No. 55 overall ranked class (28 players)
    • 2017-No. 52 overall ranked class (26 players)
    • 2018-No. 55 overall ranked class (21 players)
    • 2019-No. 46 overall ranked class (23 players)
    • 2020-No. 38 overall ranked class (21 players)
That’s likely his ceiling and those rankings are largely due to taking rather large classes. Are recruits willing to buy his message? How would a Mid-West guy relate to the elite Florida kids?"

The ranks get lower, and the classes get smaller... what is this guy reading here?

Telling myself what? That your contention lacked rational thought?

I didn’t say CMC would never leave. Nearly every coach, everywhere, leaves or gets fired at some point. The field is always a formidable threat.

But the fact Fred left means nothing in regards to the odds CMC will leave, or when. And a ******* wrestling coach left means even less.

The ACC is not as good as the Big 12, but FSU is in Clemson’s division. They play a 6-1-1 split, and play Clemson every year. Plus Florida.

We also lost our "loyal daughter," K.J. Kindler who is racking up national championships in Women's Gymnastics at Oklahoma.

I just don't see how anyone is so confident we won't lose Campbell after this season. I have to be honest. I would be gone to FSU in a second if they offered.

We have a real life case study to use as a point of reference. Remember how hard Campbell made it for Pollard to recruit him? And that was for a situation he had already told his wife he would like. Pollard had to get a hotel nearby and convince him to meet on the day after the MAC championship loss (Campbell said he thought it would be for 30 minutes). Hard to imagine that he is going to be more accessible to Florida State!

We also hired one of the top XC coaches, one that’s won multiple national titles. Maybe CMC should leave so we can hire Urban Meyer.

Let’s stop using previous departures by different coaches, particularly non-revenue sports, as rational for every coach.

I've always wondered if their facilities and locker room have become too nice. It's got to be hard to have a tough, blue-collar workman like mentality when you are surrounded by luxury. Seems like a lot of their recruits go there expecting to be pampered.

I think everyone assumes he'll wait for a better job in the Big 10 region to open up. Maybe he's like me and is sick to death of cold weather.

I guarantee Campbell hasn't talked to a single person about the FSU job.

Florida State is poor. What little money they have is wrapped up in poor administrative decisions and coaching buyouts. The entirety of their football facilities include some coaching offices and a locker room - that's it.
