So many of the NES games were completely impossible to beat. There's a list a mile long of games that you needed cheats + and emulator with saves to ever actually finish. (Looking at you Ninja Turtles).

Still love em though.

There certainly were some hard games on the NES. The original Ninja Turtles wasn't impossible though, I have beaten that one. Battletoads, however, will haunt me until I die.

Can't let this thread get too far along without a shout out to Mario 3, one of the best platformers ever made.

Dr. Mario (although that might have been the next gen Nintendo).

Played that game so much I finally got to see the spaceship...several times. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you didn't beat to the top level on "fast".

And a VERY long game! It was a lot of fun. What about the bastard stepchild of the Mario franchise, Mario 2? A lot of people did not like it, but I have fond memories of floating around using Princess Peach and pulling things out of the ground.

remember playing a lot of bases loaded with people and fighting over who got the new york team.

I just replayed Zelda recently and finally beat it for the first time. Save states do the NES games a lot of good.

I loved TMNT, all the Mega Mans, Mario 1 and 3, and RBI Baseball, but my favorite NES games were the "puzzle" games like Maniac Mansion, Kickle Cubicle, and A Boy and His Blob.

I also found these maps, which I would have killed to have back in the day:

Zelda, Contra, Super Contra, P.O.W, Blades of Steel, Double Dribble, Kid Icarus

Super Contra and P.O.W. were HARD! Especially P.O.W. I remember that was the only fighting game that was realistic as far as bullets. If you got shot once, you were dead. Super Contra had some of the most amazing bosses. Sadly, it was never as big a hit as Contra.

Very fond memories of NES. One thing that sticks out in my mind is that one year I found the stash of stuff I was getting for Christmas and one thing was Super Mario Brothers 3. Every time I knew that my parents were going to be gone for a while I would pull out that bad boy and play for a while. I got pretty good at that game before I even "received" it for Christmas.

My #1 is: Zelda II: Adventures of Link

I've seen the spaceship, but never, ever won a game past Level 20 on High.

Also: chill, fever, or no music?

Double Dribble. I always remember how sometimes it would go through the dunk animation only to clank it at the rim. Used to **** me off!

Even some of the most hardcore gamers expressed frustration with Level 3 and how impossible it was to beat. I came close a couple of times in my glory days, but man it was tough to do.

Anyhoo, my list of NES games included:

- Any of the Mario Bros games.
- TMNT.
- Skate ur Die.
- ExciteBike.
- Roadblasters.
- City Connection.

Also, does anybody remember "NARC" when it came out? I know there was controversy about it being too violent in its day, but my parents let me play it anyway. Something fun about busting drug dealers and/or blowing them to 8-bit smithereens....

Mario's, Tecmo Super Bowl, Excite Bike, Super Off Road, Duck Hunt, just to name a few.

Excite Bike. I always remember overheating my bike and having to watch people pass me. Sucked! That also reminds me of Town & Country Surf (can't remember the name correctly), where you skateboarded and surfed. That game was hard!
