It's going to be hard to find a cooler first car than that.

Okay, maybe late to the game but I have always thought my first car was pretty cool; a 1968 MGB, wire wheels and British Racing Green. Me in like 1972 in Dubuque. Love driving an underpowered manual around the Prairie Street neighborhood steep hills. Not. Like the @JSmoove VW it had a car smell. Mine was gas, oil, leather and a touch of fried out Lucas electric toggle switches. Not my best car ever but likely will always be my fav car.

1980 Chevy Citation. Grandparents bought brand new and gave it to me in 2000.

Dinky little car, and the funny part was I was about 6'-4" and 250 in high school. It was like a clown car, except just one clown inside.

That's amazing. Most of those GM X-body cars didn't last 10 years let alone 20. Had a buddy at work had the Pontiac version and it's engine went out at 30000 miles.

'81 Volkswagon Rabbit. My dad was a bigger dude and drove it for years prior so the shocks were done for by the late nineties when I got it as a hand me down. Could put in first gear and rev the gas to make the front bump up and down for a poor man's hydros.

Very cool ride. As they say, always more fun to drive a slow car fast rather than a fast car slow.

I hear ya but I did once go out with my roomie north of Ames to see how fast the MGB would go. If the speedometer was accurate it was almost 105. He asked me to slow down. Car was topped out and a little light in the front. He was, and still is, smarter then me, so I listened and slowed down.

The good news is that those pants were more likely to melt than catch fire from the burnt out switches.

First hand-me-down family car I drove right after I got my license: 1966 Ford Galaxie 500. Similar to this color.

Except the hubcaps were more like this:

I'll post the first car that was "mine" in a minute.

1981 Datsun 200sx. (not the exact same car in photo, but almost identical) I bought it with my dad at an auction for a good price when I was a sophomore in high school. It got me through most of my years at ISU. I sold it to my now SIL's boyfriend at the time, and remember he totaled it about a month later. :(

First car that was "mine" (although also was a hand-me-down from my sister). 1977 Pontiac Phoenix.

I thought the half-vinyl roof was sooo cool. :) ... My friend called it "The Power Wagon." ... Drove that car until it conked.

My first car was a '78 Ford Granada. From there I moved up to a '85 Buick Riviera, which I am proud to say was referred to as "******' pimp" by my basketball teammates in college. After that was a '94 Thunderbird, a car I enthusiastically hated with every fiber of my being. Then it was all the way into the 21st century with an '05 Monte Carlo. Currently tooling around in a 2009 Nissan Rogue, which I'd give an A for reliability and a D+ for performance.

95 Pontiac Grand Am. Thing ate rocks and **** lightning bolts. Had a hand ebrake and I got it when I turned 14 with my school permit. Also happened to be the same time Fast and Furious Tokoyo drift came out. R.I.P. Back tires.
