So glad to see so much positive about Codfish Barn. We're going to see the Zombies there on 7/2. They must be doing something right. Checking out their tour schedule it goes:

June 30 Cincinnati OH
July 1 Chicago IL
July 2 Maquoketa IA
July 3 Madison WI
July 5 Minneapolis MN

One of these is not like the other, LOL.

Saw Elvis Costello in DSM at the Civic Center around 1982. It was amazing! You could hear a pin drop between thunderous applause. He even mentioned it on the Tom Snyder Tomorrow show a week later. I don't even know it that venue even exists anymore.

Saw REM on Halloween night at Palmer. Everyone literally stood on their chairs the entire night. I'm pretty sure it was the Life's Rich Pageant Tour.

Any small venue with no seating. People’s will always hold a place in my heart.

Thanks so very much to @Entropy for today's thread idea!

What are your favorite venues to see bands/performers live?

In just central Iowa, I would say Hoyt Sherman is probably the best.
Nothing specific, but it's hard to beat the small venues. Saw Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in the basement of some church looking structure in Omaha and won't forget it.

Red rocks and the Hollywood Bowl are two of my favorite outdoor places. I hear the Gorge in Washington is awesome.
