Okay, Twins fans, Livan Hernadez is still a FA in our league, I am thinking about dropping Barry Zito & Gil Meche. Do you think Livan Hernadez is a big improvement over either one of these guys?

He'll get you more innings than Meche, and he does have a good defense, so I'd drop Meche.

I think Zito will have an extremely sub-par year, but that's just me. I would definitely go with Livan.

I think Meche will get it put together soon, he is pitching well for the most part but getting hurt by a big inning every game, and his defense let him down last night. Hernandez might be a good pickup though, Id say its a tossup.

Depends on the stats you need. If WHIP or K/BB are stats you need to keep low, Livan is not your man. If wins are the most important, I might consider.

Do some research, there are probably better FA options for starting pitching in a fantasy league.

    Here is my starting staff:

    D. Matsuzaka - Boston
    C. Zambrano - Chicago
    B. Zito - San Francisco
    M. Buerhle - White Sox
    Gil Meche - Kansas City

I also have Randy Johnson coming off the DL on monday, so I will need to drop one of those pitchers anyway.

I am currently in first place in our league, so I need to be careful if I make a transaction. We also are limited to 35 transactions for the year. I currently have four.

Do you have limits on innings pitched? You might want to keep an eye on that.

In my league we have a max of 1300 innings pitched. I carry 4 starting pitchers, 3 of which I start every game they pitch (Santana, Tim Hudson, Dan Haren). The other I'll only pitch with favorable matchups. In the other roster spots I start 5 closers every day.

I've found that this formula above is about right for the max innings pitched. You also have a chance for 5 saves every night. This will also limit your WHIP and maximize your K/BB as closers are really good for these stats.

No, we do not have a max on innings pitched. We can only carry 5 starters, and two closers. We do not have a bench where we can switch pitchers out.
