None of us know what happened that night. The alleged victim is a person too and reading the things that are being thrown around at her in this thread has me feeling sorry for you. "Shun her/drag her name through the mud"...come on. Let it go and move on. The fact that I am even reading blasts about the girl's boyfriend is beyond sad. If this is what this board has become I'm thinking my time posting on here may be at a close.

No. Selfish ******* lying like she did makes things even more difficult for real rape victims. Not to mention wasting law enforcement's time. She is a disgusting human being and deserves to be punished for what she did.

We don't know but on one hand you have a guy that was accused of something with very little other proof. On the other hand, you have someone that was forensically proven to tamper with evidence.

I'm going with Bubu on this one.

In order for her to be punished, there would have to be a trial, and Palo and Cruise would have to testify as to what really happened that night. The fact that criminal charges against the girl haven't been filed by the state or civil charges filed by those wrongly accused suggests to me that their testimony wouldn't exactly endear them to a jury.

Good point. My guess is that the prosecutors gave them the final say on whether the prosecution would proceed. If you give rape victims (real rape victims, not just flighty women who claim rape to keep from telling their boyfriend the truth) the choice of going to trial or not, you also have to give the victims of false rape accusations the choice of going to trial or not.

When a woman who has been raped chooses to not pursue charges, I think that's a mistake. Doesn't mean that I'm going to get in her face about it. She should cope with it the best way she sees how, and I think Palo & Cruise deserve the same consideration.

Of course, the difference here is that women who are raped don't have their names out there in public. These two guys were blasted as felons for months before the truth came out. It's a damn hard decision.

I know real rape victims. I also know rape victims that never came forward. Maybe comments like this contribute to the reason why some victims never step foward. Maybe the fear being called disgusting human beings deserving of punishment.

We are better than these types of comments. I never said I sided with the victim or Bubu. I said the justice system prevailed. I'm simply stating I think that comments like this (among others) are disgusting. This isn't goemaw.com. This is a community that stepped up and donated money to CW's neighbor in support of St. Benedicts. We're better than this filth.

I think that when she admitted to tampering with evidence, she went from 'alleged victim' to 'accuser'. I think it would be fair to say that Cruise and Palo inherited the title of 'alleged victim' due to her actions.

I don't see where anyone called her names for being raped. What I see is people calling her names because she tampered with evidence and made what have been determined to be false rape accusations. Saying that pointing out this behavior is the same as stigmatizing rape victims is one hell of a leap.

I feel so bad for the guy. I'm just glad he was cleared and everything went the way it did. Surely there are other people out there in his situation where they didn't get cleared.

I'd like to give Bubu some advice about the matter, but I can't really think of anything. Just, "stay away from crazy chicks" I guess? :twitcy:

The advice I would give is only double team on the basketball court.

We don't know all the facts. I think that is also a stretch to call Cruise/Palo alleged victims now. Cruise and Palo were victim to slander from others, but not by the girl. We know the shirt was tampered with. We know that there is reasonable doubt that the act was committed by Palo/Cruise in the manner alleged. I feel for Bubu/Cruise, I do. However, we will never know what happened and for us to slam this girl and her boyfriend in such a horrible manner is pointless.

Well said. Honestly, no "winners" in situations like this. Your previous comment was also appreciated.

Many have over simplified this case and have also reacted in a way that would REALLY make it less likely for someone else to report a sexual assault. Rape trials are not good for either side involved because it's the job of attorneys to pick apart character of those involved, dig up irrelevant dirt, etc. And, risk having a fanbase call for your head if it is a student athlete that is accused.

It also is important to note it appears that this was a one sided article. Sure, put the photo of him as a young boy at his first communion....but it looks like there is still evidence of 2 on 1 intercourse.

I also have heard nothing but bad news about his pal who he was accused with. Sure, friends stick by their friends, but if I were CFH I'd be telling him to stay the heck away from his old pal who seems to find trouble. Believe me, I can have empathy for methheads, doesn't mean I run with them.

Gee whiz, until I read this article I did not know Connecticut was No. 1 when ISU beat them in the NCAA tourney and Bubu was 1st round draftee Royce Whites back up.

I understand your point, but it was a one-sided case for months when everyone was told that Bubu had raped a girl. So I am not sure why one-sided in this case is that big of a deal.

You would hope so. But the fact is that this girl's (former?) boyfriend knows about her lies. Her mother & father know about her lies. All her friends know about her lies. People in Ames who know her name but don't know her all that well know about her lies.

Someday, her name will leak out. But until then, she's going to have to go into Witness Protection to find a community that doesn't know her as a lying witch. And I still don't see the upside for Bubu in pursuing this further. Him doing so would serve a bigger purpose, but I understand if he chooses to let it go & get on with his life.

Hell, who knows? Maybe he really DOES forgive her for lying about him? That would make him a better man than me, but that's a definite possibility.

So would that be enough if Bubu was convicted of rape? Everyone would know he was a rapist and he would feel really bad. No jail time. And everyone already knows his name and drug him through the mud right away.

good question I guess, Idk how to answer. Justice is a strange thing. I think its best to just move on like I think bubu is.

I suppose to fuel further discussion you have to ask yourself what role the justice system should take. Is it to punish people? Or is it to rehab them? If I remember correct you were one that was trashing both Spencer and bubu in the original thread, maybe rightly so. But you don't know them and you don't know the girl. One mistake doesn't warrant a life to be ruined, and it doesn't warrant judgment of someones character. No one wins when things like this happen.

I didn't even post in that thread once.

Exactly. Women who report false rapes are the ones ruining it for actual victims who are afraid to come forward. This isn't a case of he said she said, it is an obvious case of her tampering with evidence to make him look guilty.

It's a big deal because there was poor decision making on Palo's part which could have ruined his life legally (i.e. rape conviction) and otherwise (i.e. revenge of jealous boyfriend). None of this mess would have happened if these guys had just given the girl a ride home, escorted her to the door, and left. The decision to proceed to a different course of action was theirs, not hers. Why no discussion of this and the lessons learned from it? It seems like this would be an important aspect of a young man trying to rebuild his life.

Furthermore, the article, in its attempt to paint Palo as a good kid by pointing out the strong religious influence in his life leading up to these events, severely contradicts itself. If religion was a big influence in Palo's life and "ingrained" many lessons in him, where was that influence when the decision was made to proceed into the residence with the girl? There certainly seems to have been some activity that occurred which would be in conflict with Catholic religious principles.

Strictly regarding the article, IMO, it's basically just a fluff piece, doesn't really accomplish anything useful, is self-contradictory, and might even cloud matters even more. It would have been better off not written.
