Just going off of rankings, it looks like France will be the team to beat in Canada's region.

Does Canada have to beat France to make the Olympics or is there another route?

Seems kind of stupid that the two countries with the most NBA players other than the US would be in a group that guarantees one can't participate. Like saying only Brazil or Argentia could play in a World Cup.

Canada lost to France 83-74 to come up one game short of the Olympics. Melvin had 19 points.

Even so, most of Canada's NBA talent chose not to play for team Canada. They were only above average without those players.

That's sucks. Hopefully an NBA team gets intrigued with Melvin.

Saw a tweet he signed on to play with the same Euro team as Tyrus this year, which would be cool if he couldn't get an audition with an NBA team.

Canada was forced into this situation by finishing 3rd in the Americas qualifier by finishing behind Venezuela and Argentina. They missed qualifying that way when they lost to Venezuela by a point. Which is crazy as I don't think Venezuela has an NBA player on the team and Olynyk and Wiggins played in that tournament. This was the last chance inter-continental qualifier.

We certainly got a lot of crap from jealous Hawkeye fans about losing to Venezuela.

Here is a quote from a report following Canada's loss to France:

"....And finally, Melvin Ejim is signed to play in Italy next season and is most likely at the beginning of what will be a long and lucrative European career that will see him gravitate to the best clubs in the world. He was Canada’s best player in the final, finishing with 19 points and making all four of his threes. It would be great to see him get a true NBA look, but regardless he’s clearly a special basketball player, with smarts, skills and athleticism that could help any team at any level."

tyrus tweeted this week that he and ejim are going to be on same team next year. Tyrus has carved out s very good career in Europe.

It would be awesome to watch those games with those two playing. It would be cool if Kane could come over and play point for them also.

It would be cool to have a Cyclone All-Star team somewhere. However, I think they limit the number of foreigners on teams. FYI, Kane played last year in far southern Israel in Eilat which is right on the Red Sea.
