Why don't we see this pitch more often?

The second one is great with Horton crawling back into the dugout....

Seems to me like the risk/reward would be too great. Sure you could probably catch a hitter way off guard 1 out of 10 times but the other 9 times the hitter probably jacks the ball.

I threw it a couple times in High School. Nobody ever swung at it and threw it for a strike probably 4-5 times. The 5th the umpire told me it probably was a strike but we had such a big lead he didnt want to show up the other team.

Like the knuckler, it probably takes a bit of work to throw it right and most guys probably dont want to work hard on a 40mph pitch that might indeed just get jacked.

a pitch like that the batter is more likely to control its location...and put it right back in the pitchers chops

I played on a fast pitch softball team that had a pitcher who could throw (lob) a similar pitch using a windmill pitching motion. He released the ball as he started the windmill motion instead of after the windup. He only threw it once because the umpire declared the pitch to be illegal for reasons unknown.
