Looks like I am making the trip down to Columbia for the basketball game Friday night. My friends expect me to be in C4 by 9am Saturday morning, and I have a ticket to the football game. Is this even worth it? My tickets to the basketball game are free... should I have them given to someone else?

Google Maps claims a 4.5 hour drive to Ames from Columbia. 8 oclock tip, 3 hour game, on the road by 11, arrive in Ames at 3:30 AM best case scenario. Pretty sure I am just talking myself out of it at this point haha.

Basketball games are not 3 hours long, fwiw.

There's 270 miles to Ames, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and we're wearing sunglasses......

The place will be rocking, no one is giving us a chance, and we can pay them back for trying to F-up the conference.
Do it, and drive safe. Maybe get a cheap hotel at 2AM and sleep 4 hours.

For those of you making the trip overnight, the main route I image you will take will be U.S. 63. Having driven this route many times later at night, there are number of small town cops and state patrol cars that sit off the road on the Kirksville Bypass and the small towns north of Kirksville. DO NOT SPEED through these towns. They are speed traps and they will pull you over for going barley over the speed limit.

My sister lives in Columbia so I visit their frequently. I got pulled pulled over in Greentop for not slowing down soon enough. Fortunately I was let off with just a warning.

Do it. You could stop and sleep for 3-4 hours and be back in Ames for a 7:30AM tailgate.

That's enough time to recover.

Sleep all day Sunday, and you won't even feel come Monday.

Ames
Left Lubbock, TX with 3" of snow on the ground at 10 am and drove back to Ames and got home at 2:00 in the morning. The drive from KC to Des Moines was the worst. From Columbia to Ames should be a cake walk!!

Take 63 back to Ames. That’s only a 4.2 hour drive. I went to Columbia last week.
