Back when Coach Dresser was first hired, I remember conversations on here about concerns that elite recruits may be wary of joining a team led by a coach who had never taken a wrestler to the top of the podium. It was just something that got kicked around - not a major worry.

I have no idea if recruits were actually gun shy about joining ISU because of that, however, does anyone know what kind of impact a champion has on a coaching staff's ability to recruit?

If nothing else, it makes the coach more confident in what he can do and removes any doubt.

Case could be made that it’s a just as huge of a weapon to use on the recruiting trail for Metcalf now as well.
