This surprises me. Thought he'd hang around a few more years.
Didn't think he did enough at Drake to earn an MWC gig.
Disappointing for Drake. Disappointing for CSU. As likeable as Medved is, he hasn't proven a thing in his short stint at Drake.
Poor Drake. Any ounce of success and they're reminding they're merely a stepping stone.
Drake definitely turned it around some, but common, Colorado State is reaching here.
Ha! I wonder how Ross Peterson will take it. He’s spent a lot of time gushing over Niko.
TJ maybe? That's a big blow to Drake, they were going to take a step back this upcoming year though
That stinks for Drake, Niko did a lot in just 1 year to add some excitement back to that program
TJ has a good SDSU team coming back next year. He's not leaving there yet.
With 4 of their top 5 scorers graduating he is smart to jump ship.
I am surprised by this, but I think Drake loses a lot this year, so could be a rebuild.
MVC is a pretty big step up from the Summit League. Drake already turned him down once though so I don't see it happening but I bet his name gets thrown out there
He was an assistant with Tim Miles when Miles was at CSU. He knows the school, recruiting, etc.
Sorry, if you're bouncing that quickly, it says something about you. Really a reach by Colorado State.
I don't know, you have to look out for yourself and your family. I'm not going to judge someone for jumping ship after one year to go back to a place he was an assistant at for 6 years
But but but they were going to become "Des Moines' Team!"
I'm not really sure that Drake would be a much better job for TJ. The Valley isn't what it used to be with Wichita State and Creighton gone. Otz is making around $350,000.00 it looks like. I can't find Niko's salary information, but in looking for something comparable I see Missouri State's coach makes around $305,000.
Ride the Mike Daum bus one more year and hope for something better.
You do, but something about his rah rah manner when he came in doesn't sit well with me when he jumps at the very first opportunity. I realize it's a different world and he could have been ran out of Drake in two years before he really gets a chance to rebuild, but I'm still not a fan of doing that.
This ^^. CSU is a better job and will give him a raise. If Niko had a bad year at Drake in the next two years he may never get the same opportunity. It is a bad look but, it is probably the right move in the end.
It says I'm the coach at Drake University, in the middle of Des Moines, IA with a very limited fan base who is fourth fiddle to ISU, Iowa and UNI and eventually I would like to coach a real program so I am going to move on in order to build my resume'.
