Re: dang thought i posted this thread last night

You make it sound like we play in the Colonial Athletic League or we are DII school...good Lord...we are a large school that plays in the Big 12. Why can't we go after and get some HS or McDonald's All Americans?

I find your post to have a very defeatist tone that I do not like.

I don't mind going after them, and I think it would be great if we could get them, but when have we ever had more than one Mcdonald's All American on our team at the same time. Off the top of my head the only one I can remember us having is Fizer. It helps that we are in the Big 12 but we are by no means a large school. We are one of the smallest in the Big 12. Right now we don't even have a Baseball team. I do think Pollard has us growing and heading in the right direction though. Sorry if you don't like my tone but it's the truth. I'm not trying to be negative at all, I just don't think you need a bunch of McDonalds All Americans to be successfull. For example, in my mind, we got hosed out of a National Championship the last year we had Fizer. The next year we didn't have him and we still won the Big 12.

Well, if all we are ever recruiting are kids that are "projects" then our program will continually be mediocre.

Now you have a defeatist tone. We have recruited some good talent, ie Wesely Johnson, Craig Brackens, and from the sound of it Lucca is pretty good. We've just had some bad luck. Also, there is also nothing wrong with recruiting projects. Some of our best posts have been projects, ie Calvin Cato and Jared Homan.

The program with our program isn't the lack of McD all-americans. It's a lack of continuity.

So anything that isn't a McD's all-American is a project? I went back and counted, on the McD's AA page, (http://www.mcdonaldsallamerican.com/2007_boys_alumni.pdf), and since the big 12 started in 95-96, there have been 21 McD's AA's in the Big 12. KU has signed 15, Texas has signed 8, A&M has one, MU has one, BU has one, and ISU has one. There are 3 schools that have multiple championships in that time: KU, UT, and ISU.

Getting talent in there is great, but I wouldn't consider Nurse, Horton, Shirley, and Rancik to be off the charts can't miss guys. You need role players on teams too. Fizer's freshman year the team went 12-17. Wesley and Brackins have the ability to have a Tinsley/Fizer-esque impact - they just have to get some good role players in here to get the ball to them and hit some shots.

People are bailing out wayyyyy to early on this team, program, and coach.

Having talented guards would help a lot. The Big 12 is a guard conference so you better show up with your best six shooters.

Doesn't 15 + 8 + 1 + 1+ 1 + 1 = 27, not 21?

Did Vette even suit up for the Drake and Iowa games? If not why? Being homesick shouldn't mean crap as far as suiting up so long as he is still on the team.

Did anyone ever find an answer on if he is able to redshirt or not?

Why doesnt Boozer see the floor more, he cannot be that much worse than that other shooting guard.

Who the heck is CALVIN Cato????? I hate it when fans can't get the names correct.
\

I hate it when fans have to moan about something so stupid as a misspelled name. Seriously, did that ruin your day or what? Cause if so, please do us all a favor and get a life.

I know it bothers me more than most, because I have a name that gets misspelled and mispronounced a lot. I cut people slack on it, but try and do my best to get other people's names right because of this.

Sorry if I don't have a life!

P.S. I usually don't publicly correct anyone for misspellings, though. I just groan silently to myself.

Well.... I think you have a life. Can't really vouch for anything away from this website.

Trust me I have that problem with my last name. No one wants to pronounce it for fear they might be wrong.

But after a game like this and a great sports weekend so far, I can't understand how someone will cry about that.
