It's big business. Lots of money to be made, and Disney/ESPN is in a really good position to be a heavyweight in the field. Morals and values are for PR folks and people on the sidelines to squirm about. Dollar signs assuage all ills.

Wow...that is all that sports is about now! Maybe it always was...especially pro sports. Can't turn on sports radio without being bombarded with gambling talk/ads! I don't gamble mostly because I am cheap (it isn't a moral issue for me at all). I do find it annoying...I know that is what the people want right now but for those of us who don't gamble it is painful to hear about non-stop!

Out to fleece the rubes, with no moral compunction. Not to use too broad of a brush but this is how capitalism works.

I don't gamble on sports either, but it's been clear that this was the way it was heading for a long time now. It is what it is.

I promise you I can bring you fame and fortune if you join my gaming site.

For decades as a sports gambler, I have compiled a sure fire way to make you money betting on football.

I will pick a "Lock Of The Week" and some other games of the week. All you have to do (after joining my "Can't Miss" Service) is to go the opposite way of my picks and you'll be telling that a**hole boss of yours to kiss your ruby red keister because you've just purchased a Class A motorcoach and are hitting the road to self-financed freedom.

PM me for all the details and a link to my "Can't Miss" site.

ESPN News has already transitioned to essentially a sports betting channel, and has been that way for the past couple of years. Half the screen is betting lines, 24/7.

I am a sports gambler with most of the apps, as it’s really easy to use the sign up promos and then never use the app again, and even I find the constant ads annoying as ****

I can't believe they haven't done this already.
With such a huge platform to "help" move money from one side to the other it's a no brainer but also pretty f-ing shady.
Maybe they will market a Mickey Mouse knee cap buster too?

Disney partners with MGM and makes BetMGM a long time partner. In turn Disney buys the Mirage in Vegas from MGM which they just announced is up for sale. Then Disney makes it a semi family friendly resort with limited gaming and a huge sports area. But focusing on non gambling aspects of the resort. Especially as the A’s move to town and potentially an NBA expansion. Maybe even make it an ESPN themed hotel?

Family friendly Disney "embracing gambling". Maybe - but I wonder if this is to make ESPN more attractive so that it can be spun off/ sold? I believe Disney has been looking for as solution to its ESPN problem since cord cutting took off.

Remember when sports media was reluctant to talk about point spreads? Now the sports media is the bookie!

Yeah, there was always the very thinly veiled references by Brent Musburger. But even that felt like a spoof after a while. Now it's gone the other way where it's difficult to watch a game without hearing about the lines.

On the other hand, this also feels like another desperate attempt by ESPN to pull themselves out of the spiral they seem to be headed on. I don't see that working though

I wouldn't count on it. ESPN is still quite profitable, despite cable cord cutting. And the sports gambling aspect is a way to open up even more profitability. Like them or not, the ESPN brand is still powerful.

Not a gambler either. I just view sports betting as a form of entertainment for some folks.

Some people pay big bucks for great sport tickets, plays, concerts, nice trips, going to the casino, etc. Some people get a rush taking KU money line over Texas:cool:
