I don't gamble on sports either, but it's been clear that this was the way it was heading for a long time now. It is what it is.Wow...that is all that sports is about now! Maybe it always was...especially pro sports. Can't turn on sports radio without being bombarded with gambling talk/ads! I don't gamble mostly because I am cheap (it isn't a moral issue for me at all). I do find it annoying...I know that is what the people want right now but for those of us who don't gamble it is painful to hear about non-stop!
It's big business. Lots of money to be made, and Disney/ESPN is in a really good position to be a heavyweight in the field. Morals and values are for PR folks and people on the sidelines to squirm about. Dollar signs assuage all ills.
I am a sports gambler with most of the apps, as it’s really easy to use the sign up promos and then never use the app again, and even I find the constant ads annoying as ****Wow...that is all that sports is about now! Remember when sports media was reluctant to talk about point spreads? Now the sports media is the bookie!
I wouldn't count on it. ESPN is still quite profitable, despite cable cord cutting. And the sports gambling aspect is a way to open up even more profitability. Like them or not, the ESPN brand is still powerful.Family friendly Disney "embracing gambling". Maybe - but I wonder if this is to make ESPN more attractive so that it can be spun off/ sold? I believe Disney has been looking for as solution to its ESPN problem since cord cutting took off.
