Not sure if serious.

Iowa has had some very good corners under Ferentz, but King is easily the best of the bunch. Not only is his preparation/instincts elite, but he's got great ball skills, is an excellent open-field tackler, and he's got the most important attribute that guys like Hyde, Spievey and Godfrey lacked: the hip fluidity to turn and run with receivers without losing speed. The only knocks on him are being a touch on the short side at 5'11" and that he lacks elite top end speed.

Honestly, other than the height, that scouting report doesn't sound too different from Richard Sherman's. A poor man's Sherman is still damn good.

Didnt know we had NFL scouts posting here! This is fantastic!

Way up there
Best CB i saw all year, had great numbers despite dropping a few easy INT's early in the year. Throw the fact that he's a great return specialist and he looks like a first day draft pick to me. Much deserved award

I agree. Isn't Spievey the only one of those three that wasn't moved to safety?

The hip fluidity has been a consistent knock on Iowa corners. Very good college corners who wouldn't be able to turn and run with NFL receivers. King doesn't lose speed when he turns his hips, which makes up for some of his lack of elite speed, especially in a zone scheme like Seattle's. It lets him play faster than his 40 would suggest, as does his attention to detail in the film room (makes fewer mistakes, which puts recovery speed at less of a premium).

Spievey went to safety. Hyde goes back and forth. When the starters are all healthy, he's a nickelback, and he'll start at safety when necessary. Bradley Fletcher is actually the only Ferentz CB that has consistently stayed on the outside in the NFL.

You should really try to have more self awareness than that. Tis the season of giving, so I won't take a swing at the giant softball you just lobbed.

ISU football sucks. I don't know why Hawks think it's this big insult to us. We all know it. It's not some big secret.

King is gone. He's projected anywhere around Middle 1st Rd. That's serious$$$. He can take summer classes or online classes to finish one year. Many players do that. It would be a monumentally bad career move to come back. He can only go down in draft stock IMO. God forbid he get hurt which could easily happen. hes saying he might come back as to not distract from Rose Bowl which I get.

Taking jabs at one program for losing a couple bowl games, when your program rarely even plays in one, isn't exactly clever. Pointing that out doesn't have to be an insult (hence why Clark didn't swing at that one).

Clark "not swinging at it" was Clark swinging at it. Come on, man.

King should go pro. Get paid Mr. King, you have earned it. How many times do we see guys come back and get hurt/lower their draft stock?

Also, he says he's leaning toward coming back next year. Getting his degree is very important to him; he really wants to do it for his family. Having the chance to improve his draft stock and try to take care of some unfinished business doesn't hurt, either.
I respect that decision if he wants to come back. HOWEVER, if he is projected as a top pick, I think he should go. If he stays and, heaven forbid, get an injury, he can likely kiss a pro career, and some decent spending cash, goodbye.

King is the main reason that Iowa's defense has been as good as it is. King is a shut down corner. The award is well deserved. King has been dominant.

IMO, King will certainly be tempted to go pro. King is a first team All American. Thorpe Award winner. The Iowa team is coming off a great season. NOW is the time for King to go pro to get the maximum amount of money.

King actually has adequate size to play CB. He is listed as 5-11 and 200 lbs. which likely means he is 5-10 and 190 lbs. So the size is not an overwhelming problem. It is the lack of top end straight away speed. But King seems to have more than adequate football speed. He does not get burned deep. And King is a punt returner and kick returner that has shown good burst. King just seems to have a nose for the ball and makes plays.

King's draft position will not improve by coming back for another year. His NFL stock is at the highest point it can be. He is a very probable first round pick.. The questions about his physical measurements will not change in another year. You can not have a better year than what King had this last season. If it comes down to a decision based on his potential NFL draft position he would be wise to go pro now.

See the Brandon Scherff story. He was a projected late first-round pick and chose to stay, only to make wayyy more money in the next draft as a Top-5 pick. I'm sure Kirk is reminding King of this fact. I think King could benefit from staying for a year.

I don't think Kirk tells them one way or the other. I also don't think King will be a top 3 round draft pick cause he won't measure out too well at Indy.
King has been evaluated as an early second round pick thus far. Things can change with the combine but he would make an excellent safety at the next level. I don't see him slipping into the third round.

As a Hawk fan...wouldn't mind seeing him stay. That said...don't see how he improves his stock. Had a stellar year and I don't see him all of a sudden improving his "combine numbers".

It also depends on how deep the cornerback market is this year compared too next. If next years is considered to be thin he could improve his draft position but I honestly don't know the answer to that.

1. Insurance policy
2. Honestly, how often does this even happen? I can think of two examples in the past few years: Scherff and Sam Bradford. Didn't seem to hurt either of them one bit.

Well deserved. He should leave after this season & wear the real Black & Gold of the Pittsburgh Steelers (would absolutely love if they picked him. Still bummed they didn't get Micah Hyde).

For all of you recruiting followers out there, King's Rivals profile:
5.6 rating, 3-Star from Michigan with offers from: Wisconsin, Indiana, & 5 MAC schools & of course chose Iowa.
Micah Hyde: 5.4 rating, 2-Star from Ohio with offers from: 6 MAC schools (incl Toledo) & Iowa

talent to be had in Campbell's footprint, no doubt. Need to be able to identify & develop.

Again, though, good for King. He is an absolute stud.

Ding ding ding. We have done a poor job of developing our players of late. I'm sure there are guys that were hands down better as a senior than as a junior, sophomore, etc. but none really come to minds.
Who is it we can look at over the last 5 years and say "he was nothing to brag about when he got here, but because of good coaching, look at him now." I just don't see too many examples of guys getting noticeably better because of coaching. A guy like Jeremiah George took like 3 years for the "light to come on". That sounds like coaching to me. Can you guys come up with names that we can attribute good coaching as to why they blossomed?

EDIT: I just remembered this was a Des King thread, so to keep on topic, he is well-deserving of this award.

Just joking. King was great this year, and very deserving as far as I'm concerned.
