Objective and well-written response to misinformation around Iowa's funding of higher education:

Refusing to fund the state Universities at level with our peers is absolutely pathetic and extremly short sided.

Not exactly sure.
not much information there to really analyze much. Didn’t see a link to all the details, just stuff that he wrote. His premise may be spot on or way off base without the full numbers.

It's well established - and easily quantifiable - that Iowa universities are underfunded relative to their peers. Not exactly a matter of debate; it's objective information that you can easily find with a few quick Google searches.

Not to mention the IPEDS data is linked within the first two paragraphs of the column.

The article said we were 27th out of 77. Is everyone but the top 1-2 underfunded? Were we overfunded when we were 6 out of 77? Those are the guidelines for the article. I am curious what standing is considered appropriate then. Top third apparently is not.

That metric only applies to appropriations per student. Given our closest "peers" in that ranking would be Ball State and UIC (two universities which we all can agree are on a very different level from ISU), I think it's safe to say that this metric reflects very poorly on Iowa State.
