71KG - Alex Facundo, MI
Opening Bout - Shokhrukh Juraev (UZB)

Juraev was the Asian Runner-Up to Vijay (IND), who is also in Facundo's quad.

Also in Facundo's Half - If there's one wrestler on our team that had to go through the meat grinder, we'd probably pick Facundo. He's in the bottom half and it's loaded. But make no mistake; as the only returning medalist in the bracket, Facundo is the big dog here.

He opens with Juraev and then likely gets Russia's Soslan Tigiev after Tigiev beats Italy. Vijay would be next in the quarters.

In the final quad, which feeds into Facundo's semifinal, the top contenders all did well at Euro's - Runner-Up Davit Kutchuashvili (GEO), Bronze medalist Menua Yeribekyan (ARM) and 5th placer Lilian Balan (MDA).

Top Half - The top half is pretty thin and features just a couple contenders. One is Euro 5th Iglesias (ESP). Another is Kuanyshbay (UZB) who was Bronze at Asians. Iran's Valipour is also up top.

Facundo, a 2018 world bronze medalist, went 1-1 at 71 kilograms in Tuesday's opening session, but remains alive in repechage. After opening with a 9-0 win over Shokhrukh Juraev of Uzbekistan, Facundo was edged in his quarterfinal match by Russia's Soslan Tigiev, 5-4. Tigiev led 5-1 with 45 seconds remaining before Facundo mounted late rally -- scoring a takedown and a point off a caution -- but fell short. He earned a chance to wrestle back for a bronze medal after Tigiev reached the finals.

Realistically, how good of a shot do we have with this kid? Seems like he could be really special.

Flo has said we are the favorites to land him at the moment. I would guess it will come down to us or Michigan. He went to the same high school as Brent Metcalf, and Metcalf is a big deal at that place. He also is very close with David Carr and think that will help us as well. Word is he was ready to commit a couple months ago, but family talked to him about waiting since he is still young.

Should also be mentioned he is wearing Iowa State gear more than any other school in his social media posts (Instagram stories, snapchat, etc).

This. Cyclones and Michigan are the top 2. Going into his Jr year, he could commit any time really. Being close with Brent is a major contributing factor, but I think the idea of wrestling with Carr in practice is huge for Alex. Those 2 would be a major 1-2 punch at 165/174. Alex could eventually grow into an 86kg guy and David at 74kg. Training together for the next 10 years has to be a major selling point.
