Let me clarify, I am not saying Meza is an AA, I am not saying he is going to win the big 12, but I will say this. Meza WANTS to be out there, Meza spends most his time staying on his diet, staying ready. Nobody has to be on him about any of that. From my view, if I was a HC, that is what I would want. I think the match was 2-0 KT beat him in the wrestle off. Again, you put all the other things I listed in there, I am going with the True Freshman. Last night told me a lot, Dresser believes in him too.
To be clear, I’m not saying I don’t believe in Meza. He has impressed, but so has Terukina many times.

I want the guy who is going to score the most points at nationals to be out there. I’m not sure which guy that is, but Meza has not beaten anyone yet that shows me he can win a match at nationals.

The good news is, we are very likely to see where he stacks up in a few weeks assuming he gets the CKLV nod.

Kysen has to get matches as some point though, so maybe he goes to Vegas?

Of course... that's the ENTIRE point... we do NOT have the resources that Iowa does.. not even close. That's Dresser's whole point... he congratulated their program and their donors for raising so much money and affording to buy that team. He wishes he could do the same thing.

Same goes for football, or any sport for that matter... just Iowa being in the B1G gives them a HUGE financial advantage over ISU... the athletic contests between us and them really shouldn't be that close... ISU does great with the money they have for sure.
I will add to this post I made last night.... I heard Mark Ironside on the radio last year whining and complaining about the very same thing about Penn State... he was saying it's not really a fair fight with how PSU can just go fill up all their holes every year with an AA transfer and Iowa can't afford to do that.

Well.. it's another huge step financially from Iowa down to ISU.

This is what college sports has unfortunately become. It used to be about who could attract the best high school kids to their program and then develop them the best over several years. For the most part, that's gone now. Just have to have lots of $$'s and go buy what you need. Same for football.

He beat Iowa’s worst wrestler, borderline national qualifier. Do you really think Terukina wouldn’t have also won that match?

I’d love to see Meza against some better competition before we can say for sure. He has 1 more event right? CKLV?
The cool thing about it is we wont know since Meza was the guy. Meza is taking this **** serious. You talk about who is going to score points at nationals.... guess I have more faith in Meza then I do Terukina since we have a very clear playbook with Terukina so here it is: He shows glimpses of being a world beater, then slacks on the details that make a great wrestler great and ends up losing matches that make you want to punch a bag of kittens.

I'll take my chances with Meza to win 1 match since that's all Terukina has been able to do the 3 other times he's been there:

21' - 0-2
22' - 0-2
24' - 1-2

Some thoughts:
Brands certainly has done a good job changing up his lineup to match skills. His manuvering the past few years has paid dividends.

I’ve read a lot of hand wringing about some of the cutting. For most wrestlers to be contenders it is very necessary. In the past I don’t think we’ve had teams/wrestlers that have been particularly disciplined or mentally strong. The cuts weren’t working for KJ. Dresser has instilled some grit into this team and think what is being proposed- Frost 133, AE 141, PJ 149, CC 157 is not only what is best for those individual wrestlers but also the team. The argument could be made for AE with his ranking and last night performance but he’s just not that big. He could reach the podium at 149 but his margin of error gets smaller. There will be fringe guys with length and strength that may be able to hang with AE at the higher weight.

We’ve heard KD say the kids have to make the decision but if we are really paying guys to cut lower or we are again looking at making these lineup changes in December my only gripe would be figuring these things out with the team earlier if at all possible. I think KD knew what the lineup was going to be and now he’s going to make those changes happen.

I will say this, I was SHOCKED KT was not wrestling last night and there is a reason the announcers thought it was KT wre

Meh, it matters in march. Sure you would like to say, Iowa St won the dual, or returning cliff keen champ at so and so weight...but for me, I want them to get it right in March. Frost will not look the same in March, book that. Could Ech go 141? Sure. Who goes 149? PJ? now you are creating the problem that you have issues about. How hard of a cut for PJ? Do you force Chittum back and he is not ready? For me, I trust Dresser wholeheartedly. Maybe I am a fool, but I would drive myself nuts if I worried about all of this. Ech should have won that match last night, weight had ZERO to do with his loss.
Here is the reality, some cut weight and feel good, and some cut weight and don't feel good. Some can fight through it, and some cannot. I don't think Dresser would have a kid cutting and know he is not as good if he went up in weight and vice versa

He literally complimented Iowa’s coaches and donors. Of course he wishes we had better resources to buy better guys.

I took it as a backhanded compliment. Perhaps I read it wrong but that’s what it seemed like to me. We’ve certainly seen that sentiment here. Not a big deal—I’m a huge fan of KD and happy we have him.

Impressive…NEICyFan just took over the most obnoxious “fan” from Crabtree. Kudos to you.

I’ve never been popular here. It dates back to when I first started posting—I was outspoken about how awful KJ was. I was lambasted for it and called a troll. But guess what? I was right.

I was head over heels when we brought in KD and still am. He has done a great job. Fully on board.

People don’t like it that as one who loves wrestling as much as the Cyclones, I’m not one to wear my Cardinal and Gold glasses as often as many here.

I’m thinking Evan frost moves up to 41 as well. If he’s struggling this much with weight out of the gate after his AA year it might not be in the cards. Hope we have a decent 33 behind him

His weight issue has already improved the past two weeks and will only get better. He will be fine this year at 133.

I have no idea how anyone who watched Meza last night would be calling for Terukina.

I will add to this post I made last night.... I heard Mark Ironside on the radio last year whining and complaining about the very same thing about Penn State...

Ironside = clown.

Post dual thoughts

285 - B - Weird how the stall calls disappeared when Keuter was avoiding action for the first 3 minutes. Yonger got a little tired late which is expected given first match and it’s at Carver. Keuter should stick to football.

Holy bad takes, Batman. Kueter is a RS frosh who has multiple world medals (including gold) and in like 7 varsity matches has multiple wins over NCAA qualifiers, including a R12 guy. There’s hardly shame in losing to Yonger. Wild comment.

Iowa has more money for wrestling than PSU does.

We’ll see. If Meza goes out and loses to every top 20 guy he faces this season, your tune might change.

Either way, excited to see how he competes against against good wrestlers

Winner.

We've watched Terukina fir four years. About once every 10 matches he beats someone that he shouldn't. About 40% of the time he loses to guys he should major. Absolutely have no idea what you're getting match to match with him.

Don’t take my Keuter comment so personally, was just being a cyclone fan.

Was really happy with how the dual went up to 165. Won the tossups at 41 and 25. 33 lost to national finalist in a competitive match, fine. 49 bizarre match probably reffed correctly, just don't see many 3 point stand ups outside of carver, thought ech had the arm trapped on his throw but didn't. If he goes bottom match still goes to overtime. 57 feel bad for teemer. 65 starting to like euton and hope he's ok.

Then we hit 74 and it was just depressing. Riggins ain't it this year, not giving up on him but hope we don't see him anymore this year. 84 wasn't bad, but we just didn't do much. 97, not unexpected Buchanan is a stud, but just got nothing going. And yonger, good win, but he went down in the third with the mentality of he can't turn me and I'm up. Keuter came close to sticking him. That looked like older yonger. Hope that goes away as he gets in better shape.

If I recall correctly you were singing the same tune about Ech/Redding last year well into 2nd semester when everyone else could obviously see Ech was better.

If that was not you, I apologize.

We are no where near an ech Redding difference at this point. Although I am definitely in the anti terukina camp until he proves otherwise. No reason to wrestle him unless he is major decisioning meza.
