Looking for some insight Fanatics-

I'm trying to sell my vehicle on Craigslist, and received several scam attempt emails from people trying to get my information but they were just too busy to come look at the vehicle and were from out of state. They were all willing to pay my full asking price as long as I gave them my paypal info, etc. One was working on an oil rig, and one was a marine biologist!

Anyway, I also got an email from a seemingly normal person who requested a vehicle history report before she came to look at it, and she even suggested an option of CarAutoFax.com. Not an abnormal requested IMO, so I agreed to try to run it through that site. I was redirected to a different site called vinaudit.com, and when I tried to pay for it I gave me a weird "declined" message and will not let me try to re-submit.

The whole thing just doesn't pass the smell test for me - any insight?

Thanks.

CarFax.com is the common site that is used

Ironic that this thread was started as I just got a similar request from craigslist on my car. They said if I didn't want to buy the carfax that I could send them the VIN # and they'd do it. Probably a stupid question but there's no risk to giving them that is there???

I had the same scam regarding the Marine Biologist and the CarAutoFax request. The Marine Bio requested my paypal name and then emailed me some fake PayPal emails to trick me. I called paypayl right away and they said that the emails were fake.
Craigslist list is a great site but definately getting hit with a ton of scams. I love Craigslist, but it's too bad there are so many scammers.

CarAutoFax.com or CarFax.com? Could this just be a scam from people trying to get people to use carautofax?

Just a F.Y.I. it is easier to weed out the B.S. when selling cars on craigslist by not using your email and when using your phone number do it like this (5five5-2three0zero) it keeps the automated scams from happening and seems like you dont get any scams

A couple months ago we listed a couple vehicles on CraigsList and it was 101% hassle. Same stuff with an oil rig person wanted to buy and someone else trying to get me to look up reports for them. The oil rig person did put some effort into it - had a few nornal email conversations about mileage and condition of the vehicle before they dropped the send a paypal info and I'll give you full asking price.

I use CraigsList for other things, but I'm done with trying to sell vehicles through the list.
