Convinced. Moved party to Ames

After all the positive responses about Boone and the wonderful night life it has to offer, :chatterbox:we have decided to change our after ski activities to Ames! Where are good places to stay that are close to bars? Thanks for the help and go Cyclones!

Most of the hotels are out by the interstate (13th Street Exit or Dayton Road).

There are a few along US 30 at University Blvd. on the south side. These would be closest to the bars, but not within walking distance IMO.

The newer ones are being built off US 30 (at South Dakota interchange). Not sure if these are open yet.

Thanks for the info. I was a little worried that there wasn't much downtown. Guess we might have to invest in some cab fair.

Stay at the Memorial Union and you can walk to Campustown.

Hilton Garden Inn, off of HWY 30, South Dakota Exit, just opened up a couple weeks ago and is really nice.

…and that is a HUGE negative aspect about Ames.

The location of Ames hotels does the city NO favors in helping combat its reputation for not being a very enticing place to visit. I can't think of a more depressing location for hotel if I'm on a leisure trip than along an intersection of an Interstate and a four-lane highway.

Nothing is better for a visitor's experience than being able to stay in a hotel that is walkable to the amenities that one tends to want to experience when traveling. Restaurants, bars, entertainment districts, downtowns, cultural events/buildings. etc.

This cluster of hotels is about as stale as it gets.

I am not sure who is in your group, but the iowa house bed and breakfast is close to campus.
