It was one lucky run against ****** opponents......

Taking ISU from what it was to the NCAA tourney 3 years in a row in his first 4 is pretty close if not more impressive.

Not to mention Hoiberg essentially pioneered a new era of college basketball by being on the forefront of recruiting transfers when nobody else would and it was looked down upon.

Lets not lie, what Hoiberg did in 4 years is more impressive than what Bill Self did in 4 years.

Tulsa made the NCAA tourney the 4 years previous to when Self was there and made the Sweet 16 twice, the round of 32 once, and lost in the first round just once in overtime to Louisville.

So he actually walked into a much better situation than Fred did.....

Self wasn't replacing a coach who was terrible and drove the program to it's worst records in 20 years for half of a decade....he was replacing a guy named Tubby Smith.....

KU fans are arrogant jerks, and horrible at understanding the game of basketball. Gonna be great when they lose 3 times to us this year.

I love how in one sentence you can call others arrogant jerks while simultaneously BEING an arrogant jerk. It's tough to pull off but you did it. Congrats.

He basically invented taking immediately eligible high risk transfers and fitting them into our system perfectly. You are beyond an idiot if you don't think he created the trend which your coach is using now.

Huh, I've heard the name Tubby Smith before, why does that ring a bell. Did he win a national championship or something?

Not sure but he took Tulsa to two Sweet 16s in his 3rd and 4th years laying the groundwork for coaches after him to ride his coattails.

Yeah, KU has only been bringing in transfers the last 3 years. OK. Good grief. Maybe you've only been watching basketball the last few years but it has been going on far longer than that.

I've been watching basketball for a long time kiddo, and Fred was the one that brought the transfer market to where it is today.

The grad transfer rule wasn't even passed until 2006 and no players started to utilize it until the last two years. It's not like this has been like this for a decade and no one thought to utilize it.

No. Massively increased volumes of transferring PLAYERS brought it to where it is. The transfer pool has TRIPLED in the last ten years. That's not because of Fred Hoiberg.

Listen man, Self is a great coach. Fred Hoiberg is also a great coach. Self didn't even get to a power 5 conference school until his 8th year coaching.

This year is Self's 22nd year as a head coach. This is Hoiberg's 5th year as a coach period. Hoiberg is already considered a top 5-10 coach in the nation offensively.

Self I think is considered a great coach because of his finishes in the regular season but I think he's also notorious for ******** the bed in the tourney.

Self also gets the benefit of being in literally the best job in the country. I think it's a better job than Kentucky. Either way, you can't compare the finishes straight up. No question Fred has gotten more out of the talent he's had the past 3 years. ISU has also ran into a buzzsaw in the tourney every single year we have been in the tourney where KU's talent allows for what should pretty much be automatic Sweet 16s every year

Fred took a grad transfer literally his first year at ISU in 2010-2011. I'd say last year was the first year it was really accepted in the media and transfers still have a negative stigma.

Ok this is ridiculous man, if you can't admit Fred Hoiberg was the coach to set the use of transfers as a regular means of recruiting then I don't know what to tell you. You can't be reasoned with if that is the case.

Fred did not "make" the transfer market. However, he did establish ISU as "Transfer U" -AND- show that could be successful.
