I agree with this, also TwoCoach is a troll and will never see the light on purpose.

You need this.

Listen man, Self is a great coach. Fred Hoiberg is also a great coach. Self didn't even get to a power 5 conference school until his 8th year coaching.

This year is Self's 22nd year as a head coach. This is Hoiberg's 5th year as a coach period. Hoiberg is already considered a top 5-10 coach in the nation offensively.

Self I think is considered a great coach because of his finishes in the regular season but I think he's also notorious for ******** the bed in the tourney.

Self also gets the benefit of being in literally the best job in the country. I think it's a better job than Kentucky. Either way, you can't compare the finishes straight up. No question Fred has gotten more out of the talent he's had the past 3 years. ISU has also ran into a buzzsaw in the tourney every single year we have been in the tourney where KU's talent allows for what should pretty much be automatic Sweet 16s every year

So since Self got to KU, how many programs have advanced to more Sweet 16's? Should be a pretty extensive list right?

Slow your roll guys. I can't believe I'm going to defend TwoCoach here but he's right. We've had some decent success under Hoiberg but let's not start thinking we are KU now. In the 11 years that Self has been coaching KU, he's gotten to the tournament every year. In that same amount of time they've been to 2 Sweet Sixteens, 3 Elite Eights, 1 Runner-up and National Champions. That's not exactly ******** the bed.

And they've been Big12 Champions 10 years straight. I'm not arguing against the fact that Self has been coaching longer and came into a much more favorable position at KU than Fred did here. KU will always be the big dog in this conference.

For the sake of accuracy, it's 7 Sweet Sixteens and 5 Elite Eights. 2 seasons ENDED in the Sweet Sixteen and 3 in the Elite Eight but he has been there more than that.

Correct. I was listing them more as where they ended up during the tourneys.

My original point stands that KU really doesn't crap the bed in the tournament aside from maybe two early round exits (which can happen to anyone, and has happened to ISU)

I will be honest and say that when KU loses in the tourney, they frequently lose to teams that, pure seed wise, they "shouldn't" and that's what feeds into this. Many KU fans are pretty up in arms about it as well. I don't mind losing in the tourney but at some point Self needs to shine a harsh light on himself and his staff and see why they are dropping games like that. I am hoping that shying away from knuckleheads in recruiting that end up as your team "leaders" (Collins, Morris twins, Johnson, Tharpe) will hopefully help in that regard. When your team leader plays with an on/off switch and thinks he can just beat someone without putting out max intensity then you're going to lose more often than not. Sad but true that I think KU has shot themselves in the foot more than a few times with this lackadaisical approach to some tourney foes in recent years.

Won't argue with you there. The tournament is always such a crapshoot. 9 times out of 10, Duke isn't going to have much trouble handing a school like Mercer. But there's that 1 time it can happen and it does. The unpredictability of March Madness is what makes it so awesome.

Hoiberg is well on his way to going to the NCAA every year, Self wouldn't have been able to if he had our first year roster. Don't defend TwoCouch he knows not of what he speaks.

So teams that enroll grad transfers deserve the Death Penalty like Carolina?

I'm just saying, that at least they are legit classes and doing undergraduate coursework does not guarantee that it's any better than graduate (as demonstrated by UNC).

Ok so to the ISU fans arguing with me, I'm just saying it's not like Bill Self built Kansas, come on. Who was the last coach not to succeed there? KU can coast to the Sweet 16 every year based on the talent they attract due to ******* inventing basketball ..... KU fans can brag about Sweet 16s all they want but I doubt any KU fan is really happy if they get beat in the Sweet 16. It's a different standard. Fred would have better finishes if he coached Kansas and Self would have worse ones if he was in Freds spot. You can't argue that, and you can't compare ncaa tourney results straight it when comparing coaches because it's just not the same
