Yes, but from a competitive standpoint, if ISU is in a smaller conference with less money, that means recruiting is much easier for UI. Anything that weakens ISU, helps UI - athletically anyway.
BOTH being in strong conferences is better for the entire state. Arguing otherwise is selfish ignorance.

I think there's at least a chance - whether now or 10 years from now - that the super conference sheds some of the SEC's weaker programs - Arkansas, South Carolina, the Mississippi schools, Vandy, etc. in favor of Ohio State, Clemson, and other powers.

But no SEC school is going to leave on its own for another conference.
but SOMEONE has to be at the bottom of the conference. If the conference is comprised of only teams that are used to being 10-2 or better every year. Do all the super teams end up at 6-6 or do some of the blue bloods wind up 2-10 year in/year out? I doubt any team thinks they will be the bottom dweller but again, SOMEONE has to fill that role. Could be buyer's remorse 5-6 years after formation of such a super league.

How short sighted. BOTH being in strong conferences is better for the entire state. Arguing otherwise is selfish ignorance.
I don't disagree, but UI cares about UI, as they should. And half their undergrads come from the Western Suburbs... UI cares less about the state of Iowa than ISU does. All that ANF bullsh*t has only ever been designed to sucker farmers and sell t-shirts.

I actually don't think Iowa would put a fight about this.
EIU will do everything in their power to make sure that ISU to the big 10 does NOT happen. They will be putting pressure on the BOR, the state legislature and any place else they can apply pressure.

Their fan base is seeing what is happening with recruiting, that kids that were once a given to end up at EIU are now starting to not only look at ISU but choosing us as the school to attend. If ISU is delegated to a G5 conference they know that the money will run out and they will get the one thing they have always wanted, to be the only P5 school in the state.
It will be a return to the Fry days when we were horrible but in the P5 but now worse.

Now will it work, I doubt it, they will make a fuss but the rest of the league will still go along and vote ISU in along with KU.

How many votes does it take to dissolve the conference?

I'm asking because I think ISU's only hope at placement in a P5 is ESPN trying to avoid lawsuits and GOR issues and they need to place a certain number of teams somewhere and we better hope its not just 6.

Even then this isn't good for CFB, the sport is going to be like NASCAR I'm afraid.

That is 100% correct. But at least for now, the dollar signs in their eyes + FOMO of whatever is coming next in major college sports is taking precedence.

last week Chris was telling us NIL was great for Iowa stste.

Yeah, that was a bad take and so was the "I love conference realignment". Our FB program is great, but the low population of the state and small fanbase (compared to the big dogs) was always going to put us at a disadvantage for these things.

Exactly. The fear of being left in the dust in terms of revenue outweighs the fear of losing a few extra games a year in football right now.

And like Nebraska, many of these schools will look back in ten years and realize the extra money was really the only positive thing realignment brought them. Oh well.

Stability though. I mean I don't think Nebraska probably would be doing much better had they stayed in the conference. Their struggles have more to do with making bad coaching hires than joining the Big 10. I'd argue their football schedule is easier now.

People will say I am stupid, but this is why everyone has to write their Senators and Congressmen and raise hell.

That's actually a decent article and the writer makes common sense points.
The comment at the bottom makes more sense for the ACC route by WV...also, agree with above post on WV not being an AAU school like KU and ISU, so that normally would disqualify them from the BIG. Not sure if the ACC has any such qualification rules?

"BIG TEN: KANSAS AND IOWA STATE
The Big Ten is picky. They like their members to be part of the American Association of Universities. Guess which two remaining Big 12 schools are members? Yup. The Big Ten will take the Cyclones for their new-found football rep, and the Jayhawks for their basketball pedigree, though Iowa might put up a fight about allowing the Cyclones in the league."

Having to go from the Big 12 to the Big 10 would be like having to stop shopping at Target and have to start going to Walmart.
