I guess I can’t say I blame them. If I were an outsider I would probably put us 9th too.

Understandable considering all the question marks and production that will have to be replaced. I think ISU will ultimately finish no lower than seventh but I get why they're ranked this low going into the season.
I think stuff like this is good for the team to see. I want them all to have a massive chip on their shoulder.

Not very surprising with what was lost to graduation.

I've grown accustomed to seeing Iowa State picked 8th or 9th for this season. I'm grain-of-salting it for now and hoping we surge above the expectations. So I'm not alarmed or pessimistic based on all that.
My basic take is:
1. It's within realm of possibility ISU finishes 9th.
2. I don't expect ISU to finish that low.

Am I misinterpreting a detail here? It says KU is unanimous selection, but West Virginia apparently got one first-place vote. What am I missing?

This is a bit of an insult to Prohm. The guy can obviously coach. I just don't see how we finish second to last in the conference.
If we make the tournament Prohm will have done a hell of a job.
With an all new cast, we get to see to the fullest extent what Prohm can do as a coach. Even if we are near the bottom of the barrel this year in expectations, we'll surprise a few and finish higher.
I'm expecting the team to finish 7th +/- one spot

The coaches picking TCU to finish 3rd shows how good of a coach that Jamie Dixon is. I wonder if the coaching depth in the Big 12 has ever been better with the additions of Shaka Smart and Dixon the past few years. Love Prohm of course also. Going to be a fun year!
If we make the tournament, time for a nice raise for Prohm
KSU and ISU pretty close in the voting. I think Tech has some good pieces in the starting lineup (3-4 guys) but don't have much else. That's why I think ISU could possible finish above them. I see 6th as the ceiling and 9th as the floor.
