Bingo. This isn't a list of the Top 100 bars in Des Moines; it's a list of bars who paid to be promoted in City View. I'm guessing El Bait Shop and Royal Mile just laughed when City View called and asked if they wanted to be included.

Are they still owned by the same people who run Hessen Haus?

So are none of the Full Court Press bars on there?

I'd look, but I don't want to give them my page view.

What's funny is that they have 2 or 3 of the other bars that Full Court Press runs.

If they were smart, they would have set this up as a listicle so people have to click 100 times to see every bar rather than putting them all on some ghetto PDF. They can't even do annoying clickbait properly!

Jeannies bottle doesnt belong on any top list. That bar sucked.

And i probably wouldnt put bar louie on there. Great open layout on a nice day, but i and everyone else that's been there has had fairly poor service.

In addition to the huge omissions of Bait Shop\Royal Mile, id say Bradleys in WDM should beat out some of these.

Wouldve liked to see them actually ranked. It just looks like they put almost every single bar in it except the ones mentioned.

El Bait Shop is one of the best bars in Iowa, let alone Des Moines. Someone needs to email this guy.

Gramercy Tap? "Late-night menu"

I took my family there Saturday night after leaving the Food Festival downtown. Walked in at 8:00. Lights were pretty much off, 3-4 staff sitting at the bar (none too happy we came in) and not another soul in the place outside the kitchen

And that's a best of?

To be fair, food was pretty good.

Yeah...didn't open the link, but based on names listed here, several sound a lot like the bars that you see advertised in Cityview on a routine basis.

Cityview loves to rip on Juice for all their fluff pieces but articles like this one(even though a light topic) doesn't do a lot for their own street cred.

I take all of these lists with a grain (or block) of salt.

Also note that this is "100 Bars that they like", not "top 100". Take that for what it's worth

So I've gathered that El Bait Shop, Greenwood, and Royal Mile were left out.

I'm not going to dignify the morons by clicking on that link.

My Top 10 DSM bars (city limits only):

-Bait Shop/High Life (I'd count each if they didn't share a building)
-Cooney's
-Carl's
-Greenwood
-Locust Tap
-Royal Mile
-Alpine
-Wellman's (Ingersoll)
-Hessen Haus
-Shorty's
