I know this is a burrito thread...but I ate at a Whataburger yesterday in Norman and those need to make the migration north! It was great for a fast-food burger chain...

I agree 100%. Went to one last year in Texas and it is so much better than any fast food burger.

I've had Whataburger before and I prefer Culver's, which in my book is as good as a fast food burger gets. (Not including Five Guys or In-N-Out or that sort of thing.)

Qdoba > All

The queso at Qdoba does it for me.

Leave Qdoba out of this, the people of Ames have already spoken and Panchero's won that battle to set up the epic showdown with Chipotle. :jimlad:

Haha didn't the owner have his own financial problems? I had a buddy who worked there who said they got in trouble a lot for over serving portions, which could be another reason why I like Qdoba so much.

Here is something I cannot understand: How the hell do we not have a Hardee's in Ames?

I've been to Chipolte once...and that was enough. My burrito wasn't awful, just amazingly, solidly ordinary. Nothing stood out as a "signature" feature.

Everytime I ask someone, what's so great about Chipotle I just get "It's Chipolte man! It's awesome. We had them all over in [insert home state]." I think the hype for it in Ames is all of the out-of-stater students that just miss it from home, not because it truly is that awesome.

I think there's a newness to cheap gut-busting burritos. Then after a few trips, you really its ordinary and you don't need a coma inducing paper weight for lunch.

Flying burrito= Flying piece of ****! Panchero's and Chipotle are both good to me. Off topic, but West St. Deli is still damn good.

Chipotle is wayyyyy better than any other burrito place in town. I have had way to many burritos from Panchero's that just tasted like dough balls.. I hate those pressed tortillas unless you get a person that has been there for a while and know how long to press them for. I always get one that is either to thin and falls apart on me at the table or is way to thick and is not cooked enough.

I also feel that Panchero's lacks some good seasoning on their meat. Every time I go in I try to get something different in hopes of maybe finding something that stands out but each time I am disappointed. When Chipotle is not not a busy in a month or so I will be going there a lot more but I refuse to go to Panchero's again. The only thing that kept me coming back was the chips and queso.

And to the poster that said we need What-A-Burger to come up north. AMEN!!!!! I went down to Austin for a weekend and seriously ate their maybe 4 times in the 4 days we were there. The burgers are awesome, and after a night of drinking the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits are single handedly the best drunk food ever. LOOOOVE ME SOME WHAT-A-BURGER!!!!!

I've never had What-a-burger, or In-and-Out, so hopefully the hype won't spoil it for me before I ever get there.

Do like 5 Guys quite a bit.

Too many Minnesota transplants in school for Chipolte to fail in Ames.

I am from Ames and used to go to Denver (Where Chipotle originated) a lot. We would always go to Chipotle before it exploded on the scene so my opinion may be a tad biased.

No Ohio?.... Ohio was the second state to get Chipotle (after Colorado).

Yeah I don't know what order the states went, but Ames is CRAWLING with Minnesotans, or at least was when I was there mid-2000s. I can remember my Junior and Senior years that's ALL I would hear about from them and their crazy accents. Ames needs Chipolte! Ames needs Chipotle!

Occasionally when I would be back home or visiting friends in other places I could notice that I was picking up a slight Minnesota accent. That's how bad it was getting, damned gophers.

I've only tried it once. Probably should give it another chance.

I've never had In-N-Out, but my favorite local (WDM) burgers are:

B-Bops > Smashburger > Hardees > Culvers

Is Mr. Burrito still open in campus town? I always thought they had the most authentic burrito in town.
