Car payments aren't a huge issue to us. It's worth it being able to drive vehicles we like. Her SUV is paid off now and my car will be in about a year and 1/2. Then will look at potentially replacing her SUV with another new vehicle as we will have gotten our money's worth out of hers by that time with our typical milage. A lot of people spend a good chunk of time in their vehicles, it's worth driving something you want to.
I gotta go with @TitanClone on this one. I prefer not paying all that interest.

Wasn't an issue for me either. But 525 saved a month was neat, helped give We Will 750 a year and 25 a month

Totally agree, we have a 2018 Camry and 2024 GH, both paid off and if you can afford it then I have no problem buying new. Plus its kind of fun to have a new vehicle.

Which dealer did you get our GH hybrid from, they are a pain to find and purchase, but a great vehicle to have.
Got lucky late last summer. Toyota of Des Moines had 3 that were sold arrive and one person backed out. It was the Limited that we we looking at but had to compromise on color and interior color. The crazy thing is we were not on any wait list but just stopped because they had several standard Highlanders on the lot and we were looking and the sales person showed us the Grand Highlander. We did pay slightly over MSRP.

I would say you were lucky as hell, but so was I. The one we got Hybrid Max Platinum had just arrived at the dealership that day and was not in their system yet as being for sale. Not sure they had a waiting list or not, but its was the exact vehicle and color inside and out that we were looking for. We also had to pay over MSRP, but we could afford it, and I was getting tired of calling around trying to find one. We purchased ours last summer and we love it, it goes in Dec. 2nd to get the airbags replaced at Wilson's here in Ames.

Toyota quit using the V6 (NA) in the Highlander after the 2022 model year. Going to the turbo 4 added a "massive" 1 mpg to the combined mileage rating.
I think the government mileage requirements are by fleet, so in that regard a 1mpg increase is huge (multiplied by every model sold.) To you and me, it's a drop in the ocean.

So, I need advice and this is sorta related to the Chevy. My son's car, which he did not take to college with him, is a 2012 Subaru Outback with 145,000. We bought the car new with 4 miles. Keeps stalling, and found out it is the torque converter and it will cost $2000 to repair. Do I get it repaired? As of today he doesn't want the car at college this spring, and he may be gone all summer at an internship and won't need a car then either. Is it worth dropping that money on an old car? An old car that will need new tires this spring (I will get through winter with what he have...damn that car just eats tires).

I also drive a 2023 Subaru Outback which is leased. That lease is up in August. I am thinking of taking both to the dealer and asking them what can they do if they take both vehicles, but I am also seriously considering downsizing to something cheaper like a sedan. Sedans are $6-10,000 cheaper than an SUV, even though an Outback is a wagon, but I am also looking at an Equinox, CRV, Accord, and Kias. Subaru Legacy Sedan is in the final year of production, so I may be able to get a good deal.

Anyway, I don't know what to do. Used cars are really expensive and it may be cheaper just to keep what I have, but if it is just going to sit for the next 8 months is it worth it.

Adulting sucks.

Don't buy the 4 cylinder. I took a trip to canada in one and it did terrible on fuel mileage because it couldn't settle on an rpm so it was a ton of revving and shifting. We tried everything possible to correct this but it didn't work. My parents had a 2019 v6 that they really liked and it did alot better on fuel.

I had a 2016 equinox; it had terrible issues. Recently bought a Honda civic and couldn’t be happier.
