No, and the idiot who wrote that states Monte has "good size" for a PG...that's hilarious, as although about 6'2, definitely very slight in build....I wonder if these guys who throw these things out there due more than read a box score...

Maybe they think Monte has good size compared to a Ulis or Yogi Ferrell. As much as I adore Monte, I would draft Yogi before him just because of his Stephon Curry-like game.

He's also 20 years old and as he matures, he'll add that extra weight and muscle, most likely. I know that by the time I was 22-23, I was a lot stronger than I was when I was 20 and that was without much of a workout regimen.

I really will never understand the NBA. I do get the "potential" aspect of it, but with Diallo projected in the first round, this is where I really get baffled. He's hardly played this year. Now it's not that he would go to the NBA in the first round, it's the fact that he has to sit a year in college, before he can go to the NBA. How stupid is that? Is that year in college really going to do any more for his future than if he'd have just gone right out of high school?

Yeah... you think he would have made it going out from hs? He barely plays at KU right now.

And yet that will not stop him from going first round which is why the NBA supposedly wants this rule so they can evaluate them for a year at college to stop them from making evaluation mistakes. Can't play at KU yet they will still ignore that and draft him. Why have the rule if when a player shows he isn't ready you still draft him anyhow?

He would have been a first round pick, maybe even lottery, and thus had a guaranteed contract, so yes he would have made it in the league, at least a few years. By then, they would know what they have. Same thing will happen this year, if he gets drafted in the first round.

Diallo might have been a top 5 pick out of high school. Making him go to college for a year allowed the NBA to realize he's probably not a top 5 pick. I would say that's exactly what the intent of the one year rule is. Making players go to college for a year is not about developing them, it gives the NBA a year to scout them against college players instead of high school players.

An FYI when looking at all the NBA mock drafts. The best sources are Draftexpress.com and Chad Ford at ESPN. I'd include Gary Parrish and Jeff Goodman on the next tier. NBAdraft.net is not very credible.

It certainly seems like an outlier, I kind of did a double-take when I saw it. I suppose it could just be Parrish trying to be provocative, but #24 pick + Iowa State doesn't seem like a recipe for making a big splash on-line.

I'd argue its a great recipe for a "splash on-line." How many first rounders has Iowa State had in the last 15 years? Not a ton. Additionally, this is the only mock out there that has MM that high. That certainly seems, as you put it, provocative to me.

This is correct.

Mock drafts are generally mocked by those that actually draft players. They are for page clicks.

Obviously the closer they get to the draft the more "accurate" they get but don't get caught up in them...especially now. Monte will be given plenty of valuable feedback.

I figured somebody would bring that up! But IMO he's generally pretty solid.

Yeah I'm not disagreeing with that, anyone doing this for a while is going to have some bad misses. Just have to own those though.

I think this is a big part of it, but I also think marketing potential superstars to college basketball fans for a year is also a part of it.

Yep, the NBA gets a year of terrific, totally free marketing and saves money on not having to scout high school kids. There's no downside to the rule for the NBA.
