From what I've been hearing, Iowa State has been trying to get out of this for a while. Players like interacting with the fans, but aren't a fan of driving down to West Des Moines a few times per week during their summer.

Bull. If Iowa State didn't want to participate, they wouldn't have.

I don't know why they never got the league moved to Ankeny though. Basically right between Drake and Iowa State.

So what's the alternative, other than endless scrimmages amongst themselves? I would have to think some other possibilities might open up?

Seems like they could scrimmage Drake if they wanted to. It would have to be without coaches present though, I believe. I don't think Iowa State would be able to organize it.

It shouldn't but still blows my mind that there's a segment of fans that believe 18-21 year old guys aren't going to play pickup ball in the offseason

Exactly. Most of the Div 1 college kids played spring and summer club ball since junior high.
