If it's Cyclone Uniforms, they're undoubtedly purely conceptual. Stencil on gold looks decent (seems to be a little "empty," though). Overlapping ISU has historic connection. Don't like the lower two. Nice try with the state-of-Iowa, but that has too little contrast and would look like a blob to anyone viewing from beyond 25 feet. Don't like oversized logos, so swirly Cy is out for me.

When I first saw this, I thought it was 2nd coming of "Blue dress/gold dress" debate — why is that Mizzou player wearing black and blue? Shadow effect, I assume.

(Maybe it's the same type of optical illusion as the viral-dress thing. I never completely understood the science of it).

What killed the JT tribute unis was that NCAA rules supposedly prohibited the mini-number in upper right, so they had to plaster the Big Fat White Numerals atop the Trice-stripes. I thought the hues of cardinal & gold looked good and having only a numeral on helmet was fun.

It's still possible to design Trice-related details on some alternates, without going full-uniform. Conceptual unis with the stripes on the pants has been one idea we've seen. Highest-expense would be to have the stripes on a helmet, probably not worth the cost for how often it'd be used.

I didn't like the all grays much either, but I thought they looked sharp when matched with a cardinal jersey, and probably would also would with cardinal pants. And there's a few other combos that would look okay occasionally as well. As a college student not far removed from high school, I'd like to wear those unis. The "amestoplease" is easily my favorite, and I hope beyond hope the new ones will look like that, even though I know they won't because Nike never tries for us.

What killed them is they weren't Trice tributes. Completely wrong color. 5 stripes shouldn't = Trice. Lots of teams did that. Gold jerseys with 5 stripes would be much more accurate.

Have you watched or followed any college football in the last 10 years?

JFC. You do realize that the College of Design for the state of Iowa (and one of the best in the midwest) is on ISU's campus, right? Some of us get paid (well) to design stuff so yeah, it's a topic of interest.

For recruiting yes, kids love uniforms. To been showed repeatly that recruits like schools that have flashy uniforms over the schools that keep traditional dull uniforms.

Surprisingly, I haven't read these until now, but they provide some pretty solid support in changing things up. Totally agree with the idea of bringing the actual cyclone/tornado logo back.

I'm not 100% sure about the mock-ups presented in the 2nd link (photo below), but that might be due to the shadows. If we were able to put it side by side with Boston College and Florida State jerseys with the same lighting, that might help show how truly "Cardinal" and "Gold" the colors are. Overall, great idea and good start.

I have to say that the grey one with the lightening and cyclone is really growing on me. I'm even getting okay with the greenish grey color because that is the color of the sky before a tornado.

Everybody knows that uniforms and the intro music make or break how a 3-4 hour football game will go. It's in the rules somewhere.

I liked the JT throwbacks a few years ago and how they didn't look like ISU was trying to literally copy some other school's design/look. Doing different looks every week, while fun and some of it was sharp, is basically the same thing since every school is doing it.

I'd like to see a consistent look, then winning the games, then having that look be associated with winning, and then have an actual brand of some sort, and rinse and repeat.

ISU's brand may have started growing, but to me it literally seems like it's only been in the last 10 years even in the C.R. area that I've noticed it consistently sold in stores among the Hokeye/Steeler standard affair.

That's what I was trying to get at. Forget what Kagavi's uniforms above look like, just trying to get the colors right.

I don't want us to look like anyone else, and he points out in his blog post about how our original colors are unique, but we need to be very true to those colors to make it work. Too much off, we look like FSU, BC, or even the 49ers.

The upside if we get it right though? Amazing. A unique look/color scheme that is ours alone and gives us more freedom to create unique uniforms combinations as well. Win win for everyone.

I like these, but am I the only one who doesn't think putting Iowa State or Cyclones across the chest is necessary? Idk why I don't like it on football jerseys because I think it's fine on babll, but for whatever reason, it looks unnecessary to me.
