I think if you transfer in conference, you're going to catch some hate. That said, there are a few key differences between Hunter and if Grill went to another Big 12 school.
Hunter voluntarily left while he was viewed as being the star player for this years squad. Anyone losing their best player to a conference rival is going to sting a lot more and have the hate ramp up; if you cant see that then you're being obtuse. If Hunter went to Tennessee or Gonzaga then it would have stung less and a lot of people would have let it go.
Grill was kicked off the team and he wasn't going to be viewed as the star player for next years squad.

Good God none of these transfers are nearly the same as Hunter. Bolton? Asked to leave. Grill? Most on here did not think he was a P6 player. Custer? Again, most didn't think he was a P6 player. Hunter was supposed to be the main guy. He had an all time performance in helping us to the Sweet 16. None of the guys you listed helped Iowa State do anything.

There was a thread a long time ago that disproves this. There was no public bashing of ISU from Hunter. There isn’t any evidence of this at all. This is a Mandela Effect created by message boards.
There was a little tit for tat with Gabe on Twitter trash talking each other. And if that bothered us as a fan base we couldn’t possibly be softer.
I won’t root for Grill as I didn’t root for Hunter, but I don’t blame either for moving on.

There's no bending in knots. There's a difference between unwanted players transferring out versus someone we all thought would be a huge part of our team.
