Nice mention of Bridget in Clark's Corner at the bottom of this article:

Bridget looks so strong physically along with her brainy play. Atlanta's Courtney Williams gave Bridget all she could handle and more in the Dream game. As Clark's Corner notes, Carleton is not as elite an athlete as WNBA seems to have but she makes teammates look good (more productive because she knows how to get the most out of what she sees coming and going).

The announcements seemed a bit anti-climatic to me since she was 100% on the team having been on the #1 since 2019 and played in the Olympic qualifying tournament this winter. Only an injury would have kept her off.

Was a little surprised that her Lynx teammate Natalie Achonwa was selected. She's been out with a strained MCL and hasn't played in two weeks. Guess they hope she can be ready and if not they will go with one of the alternates.

Saw an explanation on Achonwa:

"This week, Reeve said the Lynx medical team has been working with Team Canada working on a plan to get Achonwa ready in time for the Olympics, after which she would resume playing for the Lynx." - Star Trib

Lynx players Natalie Achonwa, Bridget Carleton headed to Olympics for Team Canada

BTW, Carleton seems to have lost a lot of her PT even with the reduced roster. Only played 5 minutes last game. Needs to find her shot, not shooting well this season.

I watch every game of hers that I can get. One thing I see is she is a TEAM player and will pass if she feels someone else has a better shot while some players will just let it fly even when closely guarded as all they want are personal stats. I many times yell at the TV for her to shoot but love that she is a team player.

Bridget and Lynx are on ESPN2 at 7:00 Wednesday.

Big 12 related, Lynx just signed former OSU player Natasha Mack and she will be in uniform Wednesday. Was surprised she wasn't on a roster, she's a little unrefined but has all of that athleticism they like in pro ball. Also Rachel Banham will be back so more than the really short roster they played the last couple of games with.

On July 9, the Lynx beat the 2nd-place Aces 77-67 on the road and now have won their 6 consecutive games. This hot winning streak has seen them jump to 4th place in the league standings (only 1 game behind the 2nd place in the loss column). Bridget came off the bench and her stats are 18 MIN, 5 PT, 2 AST, 1 REB, 1 STL.

Game Highlights (Bridget's baskets are at the 2:25 and 2:55 mark)

Note 1. Lynx won the game without attempting a single free throw. How rare is that?! See the stats below.

This game marks just the 2nd time a WNBA team has finished a game without a free throw attempt. The first came from the Washington Mystics on July 7, 2003. The Lynx are the first team to win without a free throw attempt.

Note 2. We have a CycloneWBB alum Brittany Wilson sighting.

Follow-up: Lynx GOAT Maya Moore just won the 2021 ESPY Arthur Ashe Courage Award. If she ever wants to play basketball again, I'm sure Lynx would definitely welcome her back to the family.

In the final game before the WNBA enters into its All-Star Week and Olympics break, Lynx stays hot by blowing out the LA Sparks on the road 86-61, which makes 7 wins in a row. The Lynx are 12-3 since their 0-4 start and they are definitely the hottest team of league right now.

Bridget came off the bench and scored double digits for the second time in the past three games. Her stats are: 17 MIN, 10 PT (4-8, 2-4 3PT), 2 REB, 1 STL.

Game highlights (Bridget's scoring at the 3:05, 3:15, 4:45 and 9:00 mark)

In the recent CF Legends Podcast, Bridget talked about she has started to understand being a well-known athlete and a role model is not just being good at basketball, she has to know how to market herself and build her brand. Well, she just took her next big step.

BTW, Bridget has arrived in Japan with her national team. Please stay safe and best luck!

A Bridget Update

Nice recognition of Bridget by FIBA.

Bridget Carleton - Canada

SMALL FORWARD
Height:
1.85m / 6ft 1in
Date of Birth: May 22, 1997

Always a strong presence for her country at FIBA youth events, Carleton made her senior debut at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018, but understandably as a young player, only received a handful of minutes. That was not the case last year at the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in Ostend when she logged 25 minutes per outing. However, while Canada won the event and impressively beat both Japan and Belgium, Carleton didn't shoot particularly well.

Last month, she decided not to participate at the FIBA Women's Americup, instead continuing to play with the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA. Canada slumped to fourth place and now it is essential that they show their true face in Tokyo. For that to happen, it feels like Carleton needs to being her 'A-Game'. The small forward has the capacity to be a leading conributor and now 24-years-old, it feels like it is time for her to make a splash.

Bridget and Kia Nurse at the Olympic Villiage (Please stay safe!)

Bridget is using one of Coach Campbell's favorite mottos.

Lynx are selling single game tickets now. Pretty spendy compared to the cost for the season tickets per game. I was waiting to see if they would sell single game tickets this season but now, with Delta variant ramping up so fast, am somewhat ambivalent about attending.

And masks are required just so you know if you elect to grab a ticket to a game.

From Lynx site:

"Mandatory Mask Policy: Effective August 4, 2021 any individual who is over age two and able to medically tolerate a face covering shall be required to cover their nose and mouth with a mask or cloth face covering in accordance with CDC guidance when inside all buildings and facilities owned or operated by the City of Minneapolis regardless of vaccination status."

For her WNBA career, Bridget has more Games Started, Minutes, FGM, FGA, 3PM, 3PA, ORB, DRB, AST, STL, TO, and Fouls than all other former Cyclones combined.

Remaining stats:
Games played: 37 for Bridget, 56 total for other Cyclones (led by Frese and Lacey with 21 each)
FTM: 25 for Bridget, 39 total for other Cyclones (led by Frese with 33)
FTA: 38 for Bridget, 45 total for other Cyclones (led by Frese with 36)
Blocks: 1 for Bridget (finally got one last night), 1 total for other Cyclones (Lacey)

Bridget got her second career block last night, so you can take blocks off the "remaining stats" list.

Remaining stats:
Games played: 51 for Bridget, 56 total for other Cyclones (led by Frese and Lacey with 21 each)
FTM: 30 for Bridget, 39 total for other Cyclones (led by Frese with 33)
FTA: 44 for Bridget, 45 total for other Cyclones (led by Frese with 36)

Bridget has now played in 58 games, so you can take "Games Played" off the list. She's also gone crazy on blocks since the last update -- she's up to 5 career blocks now. No FT makes or attempts since the last update, though.

Bridget is 4-4 from the FT line the past two games. Her 48 FTA are now more than the 45 from all other ISU players combined, and her 34 FTM is above the 33 Frese had.

Remaining stats:
FTM: 34 for Bridget, 39 total for other Cyclones (led by Frese with 33)

With the regular season done, the Lynx are the 3 seed in the playoffs. They will have a single-elimination game Sunday against the 8-seed Liberty (if the Liberty beat 5-seed Mercury) or the winner of #6 Sky vs #7 Wings (if Mercury beat Liberty). The 5-8 and 6-7 games are Thursday.
