Burton is a 4 star and I assume he'll improve next year over this. Not sure what the standard is here. Don't expect another top 10 team in 16 do we? We make top 15 or 20 and top 3 in the big 12 and that is an accomplishment for loosing a head coach like Fred.

3 of our starters were 4 stars. (Niang, Morris, McKay). We had two 4 stars on the bench and in the rotation. (Thomas and BDJ). Only players who played that weren't 4 stars were Long, Nader and Hogue. So 5-8 were.

My point is who knows which of these new commits might turn out to be the next Naz Long or Dustin Hogue for us?

I wouldn't dimiss them as failures because they aren't 4 stars.

But go ahead if that's what makes you feel better.

I don't think anyone is dismissing them as failures because they aren't 4 stars. They are just saying that 4 stars have a better success rate & I think we would all take a 4 star over a 3 star. That being said I agree that are always guys who outperform their rankings/offers & that some 3 stars turn out to be really good players.

No reason to dismiss our current recruits. Jackson and Malou will both be 4 stars when the rankings are updated. Eric Bossi with Rivals indicated as such regarding Jackson, and we all know Malou will be.

And some 4 stars end up being terrible too.

For now I will trust Prohm and TJ.

Not it doesn't. Just pointing out the team did have a lot of them. I'm excited about Young, Jackson and Malou whether they become 4 stars or not. I actually agree with you that they don't need to be 4 stars to make a big impact. I didn't post which ones were 4 stars to try and make you look bad. Apologies

So glad he's here, but this has been one of the longest strangest recruitment I've seen (3+ years at least I think) Course he all but recruited himself.

Glad to have you Malou!

How this season turns out will have a big impact on future recruiting. And if isu will be able to stay in the spotlight without Hoiberg. We will survive if it's a bust, but we have a ton to gain from them doing well in the tournament.

No biggie. I just think sometimes people get this idea that Fred was this unbelievable recruiter when in all reality he was good, but not great IMO. Fred's success was due more to his offensive scheme than anything IMO, and his ability to get along so well with his players.

Fred went after quite a few high profile recruits during his time here, but didn't land any of them. So if Prohm doesn't go out and get a bunch of 4 and 5 star recruits, I wouldn't worry too much about it. That's all I'm saying.

Sorry if it has been talked about. Was just looking at his game logs from last year and saw that he had 9 block game. Was 1 block away from a triple double. Had some more games with 4+ blocks. I hadn't realized he was that good of a shot blocker last year. That could be really nice with McKay graduating. A 6-9 athletic wing with guard skills but the ability to get 4+ blocks and 10+ rebounds every night? #WANT

So he's basically McKay but can shoot 3's?

Yeah I believe I heard that he averaged 3.4 bpg and that was a pleasant surprise. Not really much he doesn't do it looks like.

So Monte Morris, Georges Niang, and Matt Thomas, all top 100 recruits, aren't considered "high profile recruits"? That's just a silly statement.

Exactly. Matt Thomas was about the 35 range when we signed him. Georges was in the 90 range then moved up after and Monte was pretty consistent in the 80 range if I remember correctly.

Ok, you're right. Since none of these recruits Prohm has landed so far have been 4 or 5 star guys, then they are going to be worthless and after this year ISU will be horrible in basketball.

I mean, if you're not landing all top 100 guys, then you're failing, right? Is that what we're all saying? Because I don't believe that. I think Prohm is doing an excellent job so far and that these guys will all be good players.

The only point I was trying to make was that Fred wasn't bringing in classes like Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, etc. And Prohm isn't going to either. But I think Prohm is doing a great job anyway.

Nobody's saying that, but when you say Fred never landed 4 stars, you're wrong. Plain and simple.

I think some are getting all tied up in comparing stars and just missing the fact that losing 4th and 5th year seniors who are at least all conference if not All American and replacing with jucos and freshmen increases the likelihood of a drop from the top 10.
