Big XII to add schools within days?

The Dodgers were #1 in attendance in 2019 and the Angels were #5. SF was #11. Lakers games are always full, LA and Anaheim hockey is always full. Warriors games, packed. Sharks games, etc. Throw in the biggest non-major tennis tournament in the world, boxing, X-Games and Olympic style sports.

I don't get this Californians don't care about sports thing. They clearly do.

True! Californians LOVE Sports! College is secondary though, and usually the fans of the California college teams are affiliated with the University not born and raised fans like we have here in Iowa for the Cyclones and Hawkeyes. Those affiliated fans are just as passionate as we are about Iowa State, but they do not pick up the casual fans like many of the midwestern and southern States due just by being born and raised there.

Cincinatti metro has 2.2 million people vs. the State of Iowa's 3.2 and let's not pretend that over half of Iowa are not hawk fans. They are the #8 team in the country right now. Cincinatti is a pretty close and fun trip, it will be okay.

This is all true. The Bearcats will never be bigger than Ohio State in the State of Ohio or bigger than the Bengals in the Queen City.

However, on College Football Saturdays, the Bearcats Conference (C-USA / Big East / AAC) non-national Game of the Week is always on Network TV (ABC) in the Cincinnati market in the early afternoon slot. So, Iowa State will find themselves on Network TV (ABC) more often in the Cincinnati market with the addition of UC. That is good thing for Iowa State!

FWIW, I am speaking as a former resident of Cincinnati (17 years) and UC football season ticket holder - when I lived there.

I love the addition of the UC Bearcats to the Big Xii!

This used to be the case, but with what ESPN has done I don’t believe this is true any longer. They’ve siloed their content to respective channels and national broadcast regions are much broader. I think you’re talking about the old ESPN+.

Nippert is a nice little stadium right in the middle of campus. If you haven’t been there since the reno, it really punches above its weight class, but it certainly feels crammed in between campus buildings. Apparently they still have room to expand if they want to:

I agree they are a solid add, but let’s not aggrandize their market draw…it wasn’t enough to get them to the ACC. However, while Louisville got the nod to the ACC through better facilities and by recent winning, the Bearcats are now in a better place than Louisville was in my opinion.

I just don’t buy that people in CA are passionate about sports. The Chargers were the poster child for the blackout rule. You’ve got 40 million people in the state. Getting the attendance they get at college games suggests a tiny percentage cares. Their TV viewership suggests the same.

Somewhat curious the Big12 decided to add 4 teams to replace 2.

Also surprised they decided to act so quickly. With the Big10 & Pac12 TV contracts expiring before Big12, would seem like we could have slow played expansion.

Probably indicates they know KU and ISU are headed for the BIG as soon as OuT pay up, so they can continue on as a 10 team conference.

I doubt this. 9 conference games will keep the TV contract value higher. The exception here would be if we could get into the Alliance. If the Big 12/ACC/B1G/Pac-12 all banded together and played 8 conference games + 1 from each other conference (approximately) for 11 P5 opponents a year - freezing out the SEC - that would be a real power move.

I expect instead that we will play 9 conference games and 1 P5 non-con opponent annually. We will want that to continue being Iowa but TBD whether that happens with the Alliance stuff. It could often be an SEC team instead.

Adding noodles to chili is a very Ohio thing…most commonly elbow macaroni to regular chili. Skyline chili takes it down one step further, and reverses it by putting chili sauce on top of spaghetti. It is a sweet sauce chili, not as chili powder/diced tomato heavy, with a touch of cinnamon and allspice.

I like it too in that it keeps the Ohio region squarely in Campbell's recruiting strategy. Cinci certainly isn't going after many Iowa recruits, but we definitely have used Campbell's experience there to pull in the recruits.

I agree. While nothing like the big 10 or SEC money, what the Big 12 did for ISU was take the handcuffs off so that when the right staff is in place they can compete for conference titles. Not having facilities hold you back and having the ability to pay the HC and assistants at least competitively gives you a chance if you hire the right coach.

Also I hope we have great stability with these additions, no more Texas/Oklahoma ******** stuff. Unity is what stabilizes a conference and I hope that is what this does.

I actually expect all of the new additions minus Houston to be regularly in the top half of the league. A lot of this is simply recruiting territory. ISU, KU, KSU, WVU are always going to be at a disadvantage there that we will need to overcome with even better coaching. Cincy and UCF come in right off the bat and can convince the ISU target in Ohio and the WVU target in Florida to stay home and compete in the same conference.
