Bottom line is that the average Joe (anyone with access to YouTube) knew the more about the incident and even the names of the accused WEEKS before anything is heard from the university OR the press.

I don't recall this youtube vid. What was it? Is it still up?

Its still up, but the original comments are gone. The original comments named the names of the players involved, and of course made some stabs at them and the program.

I am curious where the comments went to. I suppose that they may have been removed for legal reasons.

Can't they free up some time for Marc Hansen to do some more great investigative sports reporting. Rag--Don't forget Kirkie is "the state's highest paid employee".

It seems to me that in this case there are facts that can be interpreted differently. The police new about the assault, but the college and police couldn't do anything because since the victim wouldn't press charges, there was no official crime. The two players were removed from the squad for violating rules but no other action could be officially taken until the victim was an official victim!
So I am not sure there really is a coverup, just a twist that delayed the legal process until she came forward.

The Register will do the job. This may be a story worth following. The youtube link is very revealing.

At what point does Corporal Kirk start to take some responsibility? He has been coach for 9 (?) seasons and this is the second time there have been major troubles with the law for many of his players. Didn't the former CU coach ultimately loose his job due to lack of institutional control?

We all need to remember, that surrounding all of this is a young woman who may have been violated and may not have been treated with the due process she deserves. This is a terrible thing and justice must be served. I don't look at this with glee, only pity for the victim here..lets all keep this in perspective. It's about how Iowa is treating a college coed.

This is what the story is all about. What is being withheld at the U of I? If it quacks like a hawk, smells like a hawk and looks like a hawk, it must be a hawk.

Sobering stat: Only 6% of college sexual assaults are reported, and of those convictions are tough to get. Worst case senario is letting the athletic department investigate as apparently has happened in Iowa City.
below from a Vermont case:

School Favors Football Players
While a student at Virginia Tech in September 1994, Christy Brzonkala reported she was raped by two football players. In an academic disciplinary hearing, the university found one athlete not guilty; the other was found guilty and suspended for two semesters. But the school later reversed its decision—just in time for him to rejoin the football team for its fall opening game and regain a full athletic scholarship. Once the school exonerated both players, Brzonkala sued the athletes and the school for violating her civil rights under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Brzonkala's suit also sought to prevent Virginia Tech from ever again privately adjudicating felonious sexual assault and argued that the preferential treatment given to male athletes was a violation of Title IX.
