Have to show some results before anyone will vote us any higher. Pretty much as expected I guess.

Pretty close at 1/2 between OU and OSU. Bedlam should be fun this year. Also even closer between ISU and Tech at 8/9 so it isn't quite as bad as it seems.

Sounds about right. If things break right I could see ISU leapfrogging TT and Baylor. I'd feel better about it if either the Baylor or WVU game was in Ames instead of on the road. I do like the timing of their trip down to Lubbock for TT. By mid October the Red Raiders could be a full-on dumpster fire. Who knows? Maybe a home loss to ISU is the straw that breaks the camel's back for Kingsbury.

I like OSU to win the conference this year, but it seems like they always find a way to screw up a good thing. They have a couple tricky road games that I could easily see them dropping - @ Pitt in Week 3, @ WVU in late October, and maybe (fingers crossed) a rapidly improving and upset-minded Cyclones squad in mid November.

Way up there
No shock, I feel like they got the right top 6 teams and the bottom 3, just maybe not in the right order. Baylor is a big question mark but I can't see them finishing any worse than where they have them. I'm not buying K State as a contender, I think they'll be a solid 8 or 9 win team but will finish in the middle of the pack. TCU is my biggest surprise, I'd have them with a similar record to Texas and K State but beating them head to head.

The poll is good on 2 fronts. 1: We are still off most teams radar. 2: The confidence of the players and coaches could, best case scenario for this, shift us into that mid tier of teams. Assuming Baylor kicks rocks.

Interesting. To get 303, it seems like OU must have been placed 4th on someone's ballot!

10 x 19 = 190
9 x 10 = 90
8 x 2 = 16
7 x 1 = 7

Probably the same writer who led Athlon to pick UT as 2nd.

I don't necessarily agree with your first point. I think ISU was ohsoclose in so many games last year that other Big 12 teams have taken notice. Put it this way - they were competitive enough last season that I don't think they're going to sneak up on anyone this year. Now KU, on the other hand? There's a team that apparently nobody in the Big 12 is quite ready to take seriously.

Time for Campbell to begin proving his mettle. Last season was transitional. None of us should expect a massive surge into conference title contention or anything, but baby steps are necessary. Rise at least to the level above also-ran, and build from there.

To get to our 83, I'm guessing it was like this:

5th place. 6 points x 1 = 6 (CW's vote?)
6th place. 5 points x 0 = 0
7th place. 4 points x 4 = 16
8th place. 3 points x 10 = 30
9th place. 2 points x 14 = 28
10th place. 1 point x 3 = 3

The ISU / TTU game being in Lubbock probably tipped it to the Raiders...

Could be. It's too bad ISU doesn't get any of the midtier teams at home this year - TT, WVU, and Baylor are all road games. I feel like they're closing the gap on those programs, but it'll be difficult to get evn one out of those three games. If I had to guess I'd say they'll probably go 1-2 in those three, with the win coming at TT. Baylor's kind of a wild card. I don't know when their lack of depth is going to start showing, and I don't know if fans are going to turn out for their games in the post-Briles era. It might not be much of a homefield advantage anymore other than that Waco is a creepy-ass place.

Last year when Kansas won their first game I was rooting for them to beat Ohio and Rhode Island? I think it was. Would love to see that group get more than 1 win in their first couple games.

That's fair to disagree with ISU sneaking up on people. Just feel like we don't have the full scale upset identity yet.
