Here's a little hint about the Fareway "bakery" items.... They are frozen items from Pillsbury that are reheated or baked at the store and then decorated. 99% of the stuff they sell in the bakery isn't "made" in the store.

Same goes for Hy-Vee. The donuts come in frozen, then glazed and what not in the bakery. Still better off than Fareway's bakery items, since they don't even have a bakery.. but they don't make them all from scratch like they used to.

Not to hijack but where do people get milkshakes in Ames? I haven't found any that are all that good or not like dairy queen.

This is an easy thing to make yourself or at least that is what I do

No ****? Mind blown. I never knew they switched from making them from scratch.

The best Do-Nots? Do-Not go to Shreveport. Sorry, please merge with the bowl thread.

The best donuts are probably the ones in your mouth.

In Omaha, I recommend La Mar's Donuts.

Spudnuts is obviously not there anymore, as there would be no question about the best. The only places I've seen Spudnuts since Ames have been in California.
