Where is this to be found?

I am convinced that the Cowboy Burger at Whiskey River is the best. However I have been told the best is to be found in Gilbert. The Open Flame apparently grinds their own steak trimmings from steaks occasionally for "burger night."

If you hear the best is found in Gilbert, they would not fit you criteria for best Burger in Ames, right?

No longer available but $1 burgers at the old Cy's Roost on Weds (before they got closed down and turned into a preppy bar in early 2000's, were pretty damn good burgers. Beer and burgers before Weds night class was my favorite.

Really sad what happened to that place. I remember the first time I walked in there after it was reopened, I almost wanted to cry. And yes, they used to have some very good food there.

I felt the same way, they got rid of the kitchen and turned it into more of a "meat market" type of bar. Welch Ave. Station is still my favorite by the "classic" version of Cy's Roost was a close 2nd. You'd line up before 4pm on Weds for Buck Burger night and stuff yourself for very little $

Sigh that place was awesome, and Lost and Found back then was pretty great too. Now days its just another crappy college bar, and between it sucking, and peoples being gone, Welch is about the only decent bar in campustown. When I'm back in Ames, its either Welch Ave or Cafe B.

Speaking of Cafe B, they have a pretty mean burger there too, maybe not the best in Ames, but it is the best in campustown.
