Has anyone tried an electric smoker for barbeque? What brand would you recommend. Thanks in advance.
I have a Cookshack and love it. It's a little spendy but a much more sturdy unit than the chinese ones. Masterbuilt is one of those chinese ones but only costs about half as much. I have a friend who has a Bradley, but it uses pressed wood discs with an auto feeder which to me sounds like an unnecessary expense and hassle to make sure you have discs and could be subject to mechanical failure.
The thing I like about my cookshack is that it's a "moist smoker," which means that it's sealed tight and you don't have a water tray to monitor. I can put stuff on at midnight and sleep all night without having to get up and do anything. (like adding water) It also doesn't use any type of rubber seal for the door. Makes cleaning much easier.
They also have a phenominal online forum with recipies and help. And it's open to all types of smokers, not just the ones they sell.
Avoid an ECB. (el cheapo Brinkman) The lack of insulation means that in the fall and winter, you will barely have enough heat to melt ice let alone smoke anything.
My parents have had a Traeger forever and absolutely still use it all the time and still love it.
I know its a spendy one too but they have gotten their use out of it.
