I listen to the 365 Sports guys VLOG's quite a bit and they had a piece on Tornado's earlier this week that hit Houston area. They interviewed the Deer Park HS football coach who just happens to be former Cyclone star football player Austin Flynn.

Not the best circumstances to hear from a former Cyclone, but it sounds like his family and community got through the EF3 tornado's without any serious injuries. The last I heard of Austin he was at Grandview in DSM. But doing some research he has returned to his hometown and been head coach at Deer Park HS since 2018. Some internet searches showed his team was 9-2 this past season, so looks like he is having success. Also noticed that another former Cyclone, Ben Barkema, is also on his staff as OC.

Last time I saw him was also around the end of his Grandview time. We were both at a bar in WDM and he had maybe the largest dip I've ever seen someone have in their lip.
Really nice guy.

I remember him fumbling into the endzone in the 4th quarter on what would have been a go-ahead score against UNI. We still edged out the win.

Looking at the game recap now, what a wild one.
We're down 14-21 going into the 4th quarter.
We get a returned punt for a TD by Ryan Baum to tie it at 21.
Then we force a 3 and out, but proceed to fumble the punt. UNI gets a FG to take it to 21-24.
We get a fast drive and Flynn is about to score, but fumbles into the endzone. UNI has a 5-minute drive and gets another FG to make it 21-27 with under 2 minutes left.
We score in a minute to take the lead 28-27.
Then we send the kickoff out of bounds and give up a few plays to give UNI a 51 yard field goal attempt that they miss.

His QB career was destroyed by the worst o-line play I’ve ever seen at ISU. Those guys on the 03 line should’ve been charged as accessories to murder the way they let him get hit every play. After that it seemed like he was always hearing footsteps. It was awesome how he turned it around to become one of the best slot receivers in ISU history.
