One of the reasons why VA Tech is currently in the ACC is because the state of Virginia successfully pulled this off when the ACC was picking apart the Big East. Perhaps VA Tech was a shoe-in anyway, but the state's threats to tie things up didn't hurt the cause.
Shout out to Pollard too. He took to heart the first Conference Missile Crisis 10 years ago and once got the new B12 money invested in the facilities and program to make ISU a value add to a conference if instability occurred again. We are still fighting for survival as a legit P4 program but at least now we are bringing a gun to the gun fight as opposed to our fists we did the first go around.
I would hate to see where the state of ISU athletics would be without Jammie Pollard.

The guy is a lock for the ISU athletics Mt Rushmore for sure. The growth and development of our programs, facilities, and fanbase during his tenure has been remarkable. If we come out of all this realignment nonsense in good shape you could drop the athletics part and make a case for him on the general ISU Mt Rushmore.
Stanford is a powerhouse AD by every measure except the ones that matter for realignment. They sponsor a huge number of varsity sports and are a national power at many of them. But this all comes down to fielding a good football team, and drawing eyes to your football games. And in that capacity, Stanford has not been very strong.
Is Stanford's fall in football relevance due to a lack in recruiting due to high academic standards? Surely not just based on attendance, or is it? Because we all know they have a beautiful campus/surroundings/weather/etc.
Guess I'm remembering how good they were when they snockered Iowa in the Rose Bowl- sorry, not a bash, it just sticks in one's mind.
Do we not consider Ore and Wash just because they may then bolt? Shouldn't we talk? See if we can tie them in solidly?

How do these realignments actually work? I mean, I know schools apply, then conference votes to accept them. But....what keeps them from bolting for some better offer? Assume they sign a contract but for how long? Is it binding enough, considering the money some will pay to do about anything regardless if there would be an early exit fee$ ,etc.
If Oregon and Washington don’t go to the B1G, obviously you take them. Sign the GoR and move on for the next ten+ years.
Of course you take them, but only on our terms - ie "sign the GoR with Big12 or no thanks".
That's why you go get the Mountain 4 first - puts pressure on them. They probably would still wait until the B1G says no, but at least you lean on them and make them sweat it out.

Yep. They'll go through the motions of seeing what can be brought to the table, but without UCLA & USC, the pickings are going to be slim, and that makes an already bad situation worse. It's hard to imagine a scenario where it is more lucrative to stay, unless TV execs just burn down their own house with a silly offer.
