Any direct links to specifics of this program? I’m sure my house is too old but have a family member in a newer house that would really benefit from this. They’ve got a large corner lot that is mostly clay and it drives them nuts.

I tried the city website and didn’t see anything.

I used this program last spring, and my yard seems to have performed better throughout the year than previous years. There aren't restrictions on the age of the yard so anybody can apply. The city does have a budget which is probably already used up for the year. I'm pretty sure the fiscal year ends in the summer so you should be able to apply for fall reimbursement which will give you better results anyway.

Feel free to message me with any questions.

This sounds interesting. Can you tell me who actually does the soil restoration and what the cost would be for a normal sized lot?

I'd rather spend the money on aerating, quality grass seed, fert and watering.

Grass will grow if you stay off it, give it water, fert and sun
I do minimal with my yard and it always looks great. I use a 4 step application I get at Bomgaars, let the rain water it, mow it, and I have a healthy lawn with almost no weeds.

Polk County had a project in Polk City for residential SQR and used Lewis Lawn and Labor for all of their restorations.

If you poke around the website, there are a ton of links with helpful information. The link below is one that I would recommend checking out. In particular, focus on the tips for success. When the compost is applied, it looks really terrible for a week or two while the grass grows back through. The biggest mistake that I made was that I thought the grass would grow back through everything, but I ended up with some dead spots. In the long term they grew back so not a big deal, but that could likely have been avoided if I just scraped the heavier areas around to expose the existing grass and watered better.

The second link has some options for companies that will do the work. I can't vouch for the validity of the links because when I started contacting the companies a couple years ago, most of them didn't return my emails. I worked with AJ and Tony Toigo, and they did a good job.

I think the total was ~$1,500 for a normal lot. There was something that the city didn't reimburse (aerating maybe?), so I got $650 reimbursed.
