Hey all,

In January, we'll be having my wife's 30th b-day part, and my daughter's 1st birthday. Their birthdays are 1 day apart so figured we'll just do a big combined party. Nonetheless, our house isn't big enough to host a larger party and am looking for a place such as a club house or something that we could rent and host a party. Probably would need to hold 30-40 people.

Ankeny is preferred, but could go a little bit further away if there is a good option.

Any suggestions would be great.

BenchWarmers has a brand new party room just for stuff like this. Wife threw my 30th birthday party there. Gray threw one for his wife recently. Children are welcome there too as it is a restaurant and not full-fledged bar.

Just had a Christmas party at Briarwood last night. There is a nice room on the main level that would probably fit that number great. Or the basement is also a bar and we've been down there before too. (If you go there order the nacho bar)
I have been to outings at Otter Creek before too but that might be a little big for what you are looking for.
Wig and Pen has a party room that should work for that size or if you are looking for just a room and bringing all your own food, the lake side center is owned by the city and has the "community building" feel.

You talking about the west side of the building or did the renovate that room on the south side?

They renovated the south side. Knocked a wall down for an entry.

It is nice and has it's own bar in there. Worked out great for my wife's 30th.

All good ideas I will check into. Does anyone have an idea of rental cost? I don't really have a budget in mind yet, just getting a feel for prices.

Free at Benchwarmers. Just call and reserve the room.

Does anybody have any suggestions and estimated prices for a kid's party where they would be doing crafts and other activities along with possibly eating?

Has anyone ever used a club house for something like an apartment complex? I also like some of the restaurant suggesetions I've seen. One thing I do want is decent space for kids to run around and play a little.

What age kids? Are you looking for a place to do an activity or are you providing the activity? There used to be a paint your own pottery place in Ames, you could bring your own food in (pizza/ice cream/cupcakes) but they moved to Waukee. Party packages start at $13 per kid. We did 2 parties there and attended others, the kids seem to like it.

For the family parties how about that Ramada on Merle Hay with all the pools?

It's for a 7 year old birthday party. The party isn't planned so we'd be open to either bringing an activity or two or doing one that was planned for us if the price is reasonable. My wife has been to the pottery place before, and they really liked it. I'm not sure if they'd want to drive to Waukee though.
