Not the same circumstances, one is a job. The other is a team you went through the physical and emotional gauntlet of a football season with.

Yep, Rose and Hall just mailed it in. Obviously their tenure at ISU was a farce. If the team would just listen to the fanbase for their moral direction, we could have made the CFP this year.

What a ******* culture this program has become. I am absolutely fed up with the constant stories of "me first" players, excuse making and athletes in trouble we have to live with.

And while you are berating two of the best football players to ever come through ISU for their commitment to the team, why are you so sure they would have done any better in the game than their replacements?

Isn't it just possible that their decisions to sit out were for the better of the team? Isn't it possible Rose knew he couldn't go a 100%? Wouldn't it be like a team leader for Hall to say - I have made my payday, lets get the next generation in?

Maybe ISU should have gone the way of UCLA and given Rose and Hall some cover and just avoided playing all together.

In any case, keep this take close by. You can use it again next year assuming we don't with the CFP.

It was mentioned several times last night that Clemson had no players opt out of the game, how many pros do they have on their roster?

Bad look for a 5 star culture team to have key players sit, they put themselves above the team.

How many did we have opt out? One? Just Breece right? Rose was hurt Campbell said so, and even if he wasn't I don't blame him. Move on, this is the new normal until bowl games change and mean something again...

What if your son was in that spot? 21-22 years old with no money in his bank account, at the end of his college career, and one major injury away from losing his dream and millions of dollars in future earnings playing professional football?

Would you advise him to risk it all to play in a non-playoff exhibition game so the fans like you can be more entertained?

As far as I'm concerned, these guys earned the right to opt out, and I think it's a little hypocritical for any of us to criticize them for their decision.

First, I would have told him to shut it down after the Tech loss. Being serious. If I'm worried about him getting injured there is no way I have him play or practice after that. Work out and that's it.

Second, if bowls are exhibitions, then why do they count on team records and final rankings? Stats count too.

I don't blame Breece at all just to be clear.

Look, if I am to be a snot rag. But I get the chance to be in between those melons first, you take those chances. You take those chances 10/10 times.

I'm not being critical.......just asking why now? If money is the primary concern, once the teams goals were shot after TTU, exactly what was to gain playing in some meaningless conference games? If it's for fans, teammates......all those things of a 5 star "culture", are those not still valid at a bowl game? Was the risk of getting injured and losing millions less against TCU than Clemson? If the flip side to that is it doesn't matter if the fans, the school or most important OTHER PLAYERS agree with them.....then Tornado is correct......that's fine, but let's drop the "5 star culture" pose.

And I do think it makes a difference that it's a bowl game; they are glorified exhibition games. That doesn't mean they can't be fun or meaningful; I was disappointed last night and really enjoyed the fiesta bowl win last year. But they aren't regular season games or the playoffs. So a player missing a bowl game for whatever reason is different than them choosing to not finish out the regular season

^This. Also back in 1980 there were 15 bowls and you basically had to be a Top 25 level team to make one. Now with 40-ish bowls it is like be Top 80 without a losing record. It's so watered down they are mostly NBA like all-star games especially for teams that had higher aspiration than what they achieved. This isn't exactly like getting boat raced in the Rose Bowl back when everyone was watching.

It would have been nice to have won or played better versus name opponents like ND and Clemson but we were a half full glass all season losing some of those games like WVU and Tech. Not sure we will have players good enough to make opting out an issue next year so there will probably be a thread on that next December!

I love the takes where people think players owe us something. Nothing shows me how little a person gets it more than deciding that an athlete who busted their ass, balanced their studies, and played through injuries still owes the fans something, if they don't go out the way we approve.

I equally love the takes where people pretend Breece Hall would be famous and making alot of money if he were good at checkers instead of football. Who do you think drives all this money?

The premise of the thread is too black and white like most things in life. The fact Breece Hall was on the sideline yesterday after opting out says something about culture.
