Lots of optional, sloppy defense on display this weekend.
I was expecting much better play. Hopefully they can get it turned around next weekend.

Kirk Herbstreit and the talking heads will chalk it up as "an explosive offensive weekend for the Big Ten". Then they won't say a word about how good ISU and OSU's defenses looked in a league known for its offenses.

Since other leagues have gone to spread concepts and some up tempo, scores have been going up. The talking heads will never trash their larger audience of SEC and Big 10 fans.

Will be interesting to see how Iowa does next weekend against NW. I thought they were a 5-3 type team, but 2 of those 5 wins were this weekend and next. Now its looking like a 3-5 type team.

Teams 2-12 in that league are basically toss up games every week. Whoever is playing tOSU will lose, every other game is up in the air and could go either way.

Just all around bad football to watch. That Minnesota game was painful. No tackling, fundamentals, etc

The big 10 is per trash. Those loud mouths were talking crap before their conference even played a game. This is the weakest football conference ever assembled.

Rutgers: F
Maryland: F
Penn State: B-
Ohio State: A
Indiana: C+
Purdue: D
Illinois: F
NW: D
Michigan: B+
Michigan State: F
Wisconsin: B+
Hokkks: F
Minnesota: D
Nebraska: F

I'd go with teams 4-12. There definitely 3 good teams in the conference. Wisconsin and Michigan included. Beyond that, there's a lot of ugly.

And you think this week was bad, lots of lopsided matchups next week as well.

Mich - MSU
Purdue - Ill
Wisc - Neb
NU - Iowa
tOSU - PSU

Maybe the Indiana vs Rutgers game will be the most competitive? I'm sure that's exactly what the conference was hoping for to boost ratings.

I guess it was game 1 but I was surprised how bad Minnesota looked on defense. Just total blown coverages, guys still running around trying to get lined up while Michigan just runs it off tackle for a huge gain with nobody in the second level. It was like watching Chiz and Bolt’s ISU defenses.

So when the Campbell to Michigan State rumors first surfaced remember people trying to argue it was a good job?
I will reiterate, Dantonio was a great coach there. They returned very little talent and historically it’s not that easy to win there.

BIG is simply seeing the results of the COVID lack of physical contact leading up to games. This impacts the defense more than the offense. I'd expect the defenses to gradually improve as the season goes on. However, you are also going to see a greater separation between the teams at the top (tOSU, Michigan, Wisconsin) over the teams at the bottom for the same reason. A whole bunch of ugly games coming up.

Michigan State looked awful at home against the worst P5 school in the Country with a new head coach.

Boy, have they fallen. Luckily for Iowa, they are on the crossover schedule.
