I think you need to look at how many are on scholarship. I would assume that walk ons over the years would stop playing, which could be a reason why you have less upper classman.

RS Fr and So are from the same class so it looks to me like once we started getting depth built we could start redshirting players. Plus it coincides w the 4 game rule so we could play players multiple games and still redshirt them (prior to that playing them meant losing the ability to RS).

Those numbers are actually pretty good. Absolute balance would be 25 per class. Seems you'd lose at least half your walkons within the first two years. Let's face it football takes a toll on the body. Guys that aren't getting time transfer.

Sure, but they still have 2 years of eligibility (well 3 since this year doesn't count towards it). It's different than a true Junior because they have 2 years to play 1.

We are one of the most inexperienced teams in the country roster wise. Can't remember where I saw it, but I know it was mentioned in our matchup with ULL because they have one of the most experienced rosters.

Yeah, walk ons are usually freshman and sophomores. It takes a lot of commitment to stick it out for four years and a lot of kids decide to hang up the cleats before then.
